It is astonishing to listen to out of state conservatives bang on Dewhurst for being "moderate". Erickson and other Red Staters are blowing hot air when they accuse Dewhurst of supporting a state income tax and favoring in state tuition for the children of illegal immigrants [Mexicans]. Dewhurst wasn't even in the legislature when that bill was passed for Pete's sake.
Granted, Dewhurst's ads linking Cruz to the Chinese and amnesty are yucky but the fact remains; Ted was more than willing to represent a Chinese company [and yes he was involved directly in the litigation] and we all know that Ted knows that means representing the Communist Party of China. Cruz has also been more than a little shifty in the way he's portrayed his Dad as a refugee from Cuba. His ads and some of his public endorsers have certainly lead us to believe his Dad fled communism while in reality his Dad was exiled by the Battista regime for engaging in violence in support of Castro.
This whole fight is more of a fiasco than a principled stand for individual liberrty, states rights and limited government . Dewhurst isn't perfect but he sure as heck isn't Dick Luger; something I wish well intentioned national conservatives and Tea Partyers would figure out before they start shooting their own people.

isn't his lack of Conservative credentials on the whole. He believes in things we all do like the right to life. However, he is a long (long, long, did I say long) time politician for starters. And he tends to be one of those "go along to get along" kind of guys. The last thing we need is yet another one of those in DC. He has been a member of the "boys" club in the TX Senate for a long time as well and he will take that mentality with him. He is not one who is ready to do battle for the people's concerns as was evidenced in the last Legislative session when he chickened out in the ace of Federal threats when we tried to pass a TSA Anti-Groping bill. It sailed thru the house and was held up in the Senate. It was only in the special session, forced by Gov. Perry, that DD brought the watered down version to the floor and it passed. By then, however, it was much too late to get it thru the House (and Spkr Straus didn't give it any effort...another story), so it failed. Thanks Dewhurst.
Dewhurst blocked sanctuary city legislation in the Senate and a slew of other important Conservative bills from the House. He did us no favors and just played good ol boy. He will NOT serve the people, he has proven he has no regard for the people by his total disregard for almost every forum, debate etc. throughout this process. NO! We can do far better with a man like Ted Cruz. I hope many in the GOP will see this as we move forward over the next 2 months. We need recruits! We need boots on the ground! We need financial support! I hope we can count on folks all over this great nation to put him over the top!

stopping a RINO there may be a pyrrhic victory.

there is no debate regarding Dewhurst, but he did as well as he did because of name recognition alone. Because Texas overall does well as a red state, Dewie gets credit. It's not hard to assign him the credit when you stack Texas up against California or Massachusetts. We that follow state politics closely know better: he and Speaker Joe Straus are cut from the same moderate cloth. Cruz's challenge will be to force run-off voters to look more closely at Dewhurst and not simply cast a vote for him because he's a long time Lt. Governor.

until the votes are cast. But the fear of losing is never a valid reason to do the wrong thing or keep the wrong person in office. Republicans are nearing a point where if there is not a clear distinction between them and the dems, our party will fade away in most of the country.
If Dewhust is such a strong conservative and has done all these great things for Texas, why would they want to lose him to become an irrelevant and meaningless Junior Senator?

According to you he's been effective and instrumental in so many things that it would seem to me that Texas should want to keep him where he is and set him up to take over for Perry and continue the conservative direction.

If he goes to DC he'll be one of 100 Senators. As a Jr Senator he'll have little power or influence. No chairmanships. No nothing. He'll be almost 70 when he takes office and almost 75 by his 2nd term. He's not long for the Senate.

Cruz, otoh, is young. He can grow and position himself nicely to contribute and make a difference. We primary Cornyn in 2014 and all of a sudden Cruz is the Sr Senator with much more power.

Cruz helps the party by adding another rising hispanic star to a roster that includes younger hispanics like Martinez, Rubio, Herrera, Sandoval and some others. Another almost 70 yr old rich white guy doesn't really do anything on that front.

Cruz would also gain valuable esperience for a potential Supreme Court appointment.

Seems to me TX can really have the best of both worlds here. They keep tthier strong conservative LT Gov in Austin where he continues to work with Perry in growing the economy, adding jobs, and moving the state in a conservative direction in preparation for running for Gov on his own...and they send a younger, strong conservative to DC where he learn the ropes and work with guys like DeMint, Lee, and Rubio in rejuvenating the GOP Senate caucus and fixing things from the inside. Everyone wins in that scenario.

Logic has it that Dewhurst?s lead is too big to overcome, but 2 months can be an eternity in politics. Despite being not near as well known as Dewhurst,Cruz came within 3 points of him on election day votes. I believe the fertile field for Cruz will be those who voted for Dewhurst by habit, not by conviction. For every vote switched, Cruz gains 2.He should go after the Dewhurst voters who mistakingly believe that the Lt. Gov. is a conservative.
The 31st of July is a very hot day in Texas. People who are not really motivated may stay home or go to the beach.
Go get ?m, Ted !!!
