Yet another story
red4ever (Diary) Thursday, May 14th at 12:12PM EST (link)Today, her version of what happened is that she was lied to by the CIA. That woman will say anything, do anything (except release her own records) to cover her butt. She knew. She knows she knew. Now she just wants to not get in trouble for knowing. She is Speaker of the House of Representatives, not a four-year-old. Even a four-year-old gets punished for lying and covering up. So should she.
The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality.

It's also possible that Pelosi is just too stupid
Achance (Diary) Thursday, May 14th at 12:20PM EST (link)to understand the briefings, wasn’t really paying attention, and doesn’t know what she was told and when, so now she’s just making stuff up to cover her ample butt. Having given briefings to quite a few elected officials, I actually lean towards this explanation.
In Vino Veritas
Just ask her what was in the stimulus bill.. NT
Greg (Diary) Thursday, May 14th at 12:33PM EST (link)Art, in this case, I think Pelosi was fully engaged an on-board
civil truth (Diary) Thursday, May 14th at 12:57PM EST (link)Post 9-11, we had a Republican President with new popularity leading the nation after an unprecedented attack on American soil.
The Democrats wanted to make sure at all costs that another attack didn’t happen, because they would lose big time if it appeared that the Democrats in Congress had obstructed the President in any way that allowed a second attack.
Indeed, they might have wanted to be even “more Catholic than the Pope” on this matter to insulate themselves fully from further Republican inroads.
It was only after the popular mood turned against Bush that they started with this revisionism, in part partisan puposes to pile on the President – and in part to suck up to their lefty base.
And now that they’ve taken over Congress and the White House, they’re going the whole proscription route – because they’re now going all in for permanent one-party control, using this issue as one of their wedges – and therefore don’t expect to be called on it, even if their actions result in another attack on American soil.
Indeed, not that Democrats actively will seek such an attack* but they will be prepared with the media cover to oppotunistically use such an attack to further solidify power.
*If I don’t buy the “truther” government conspiracy theories about the Bush administration, I really have no business projecting that same kind of paranoia onto the Democratic party of today. Besides, the Democrats appear to be well on their way to achieving one party control just by pursuing their current course.
And Occams razor says that a future attack will more likely result from government incompetence and bad policy (like the 9-11 attack) rather than by a seamless conspiracy by these same incompetents who can’t keep any government secrets from leaking.
The greatest evil…is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the offices of a thoroughly nasty business concern. -C.S. Lewis

You may be right, but if stupidity is one of the options
Achance (Diary) Thursday, May 14th at 1:00PM EST (link)for explaining a politician’s behavior, it is usually the correct option.

Stupidity versus CYA: tough to choose between
civil truth (Diary) Thursday, May 14th at 1:55PM EST (link)I essentially was arguing for CYA as the prime motive.
Stupidity certain trumps most alternatives, but CYA is such a primal instinct that I would put it on the short list with stupidity.
It is significant thatPelosi was not alone, but she was part of the pack – just about all the key Democrats were in favor of aggressive measures then – and now are switching sides. That favors CYA.
On the other hand, Pelosi was about the only one who led with her chin in what she said about her having always been opposed. That favors stupdity.
Hard to definitely choose. But the fact that these are the top two choices for Nancy (and for most of our leaders, R or D) is rather depressing in terms of our country’s future, for what it says about our nation’s current leadership in Washington.

"Never ascribe to malice what which can be adequately explained by incompetence"
6eorge Jetson (Diary) Thursday, May 14th at 2:14PM EST (link)attributed to Napoleon
Another variation goes something like “You cannot distinguish between nefarious behavior and extreme incompetence”
Either way she still sucks. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it’s still a duck that’s the Speaker of the House.

Fireworks on the horizon
rbstratford - Quick Daily Insights Thursday, May 14th at 2:23PM EST (link)There are a myriad of elements afoot here that we have no clue about. Pelosi didn’t get to where she is, Speaker of the House of Representatives and third in line for the Presidency, by sheer luck or good looks (oh, sorry, did that surprise you…?) She has allies, resources and tools at her disposal that have yet to come to light.
I say, we may be in store for some spectacular fireworks.
