MEMBER DIARY

You made your bed, now lie in it…

I believe that I’ve finally figured out what it will take to make the liberal proponents of Government Healthcare see things from the conservative side of the argument.

Before I show you my idea though, we need to get one thing straight… conservatives are not opposed to fixing the issues that need to be fixed (i.e. helping those that truly need the help with healthcare).  What conservatives are opposed to is the eventual single payer, GOVERNMENT healthcare solution.  Conservatives don’t look to government as the first solution to every problem.

Liberals, you have a laser-like focus on passing this healthcare bill (by any means necessary). While you are focusing on that goal however, you are losing sight of something. It’s the thing that makes conservatives realize that government is not the answer to our problems.

You are not going to be in power forever – even if the current congress tries to “deem” it so. Eventually (probably starting this November) you lose your grasp of power, and the Republicans will hold the reigns. When that happens, guess who will be in charge of your healthcare decisions if the current bill is made into law.

You feel safe now, when your party is in charge.  Do you really think that the Democrats will always be in control of your day-to-day healthcare decisions?  How would you have liked government healthcare if George Bush were in charge? How about Karl Rove?  Dick Cheney?  How would you feel with a medical rationing panel made up of Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and Ann Coulter?

Better yet, think of the two people on the political right that just make your blood boil and your mouths foam in anger?  Now, think about this…

…how will you feel when, say in 2013, President Palin announces her appointment for Healthcare Czar?

Rush - Healthcare Czar

If it comes to that, all we can say to you then is – you made your hospital bed, now lie in it.

DISCLAIMER:  No conservative personalities were harmed in the making of this diary.  They were merely used as examples of what the left is opening themselves up for. Even though the left wing blogs will try to make it into one, this cartoon is not a knock on Rush.

Knows that Rush would never take the pay cut. However, Ron Paul.. Ahem, DR. Ron Paul would be a splendid choice for the job.

I’m liberal, I support this bill, precisely because I don’t see it as a “government takeover of health care” at all.

    (we can agree to disagree)

At any rate the scenario above doesnt frighten me at all because I dont see it as even a hypothetical, remote consequence of the legislation which will pass this weekend.

Perhaps I am wrong. If so, how bad can it be? Rush got pretty good healthcare in Hawaii, so he has seen healthcare from the other side. Plus, Rush is actually a human being, so if he were appointed by president Romney (Palin – just not gonna happen, though I would love to see her run in 2012, as an Obama fan) I’d have to give him some benefit of the doubt that he would do his job and not just try to screw half the american public out of their health care just because the disagree with him. Having listened to Rush fo ryears myself, Im pretty confident hed do his best.

It is true, Rush is a human being and in this hypothetical he would act as such. However, what will happen to this new system when it starts to become unsustainable. Does Chris Christie ring a bill?

When the adults are back in charge, then adult desicions will have to be made. Additionally, unconstitutional and liberty sucking laws will begin to be stripped.

This bill is a mess and your first clue should be the partisanship and trickery used to get “something, anything” passed. Heck most of your own party hates it.

true that obama is a muslim who wants to make us commies?

When was the last time there were adults in charge in DC, VizBiz?

We’ve had a few adult presidents* (Reagan and Washington come to mind)… a decent Congress in 94… but that’s about it.

*I respected G.W. Bush, but I wasn’t in favor of his domestic federal expansion programs.

“We hereby resolve that health care has been addressed in the 111th Congress. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.”

    • Bill

but I think we all know that the way to solve social security and medicare solvency is to let all the “baby boomers” just die. Problem solved. So you will have to have one of your new 150 government panels, commissions or a bureaucrat at the IRS or HHS make a ruling that “we can’t afford this or that treatment” and “just give him/her a pain pill and DIE”. So government controlled socialized medicine will be at the whim of government. God bless the USA.

      Wrong.

“And I just want to tell you, what happened to me, the health care system in Hawaii has no resemblance, zilch, zero, nada to Obamacare. There wasn’t one bureaucrat between me and the doctors. There wasn’t one insurance company. It was me dealing directly with the doctors, me and my checkbook. So I was willing to pay for it.”

      http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_010610/content/01125106.guest.html

Additionally, if you don’t believe that this current HCR isn’t going to be (or even lead to) a government takeover of healthcare, then you aren’t listening to the very words of the president that you support. There are a plethora of soundbites, speeches, etc wherein he not only supports single payer, but talks about how you have to get there via small increments…just like the current plan. Those are his words, not Glenn Beck’s or Ann Coulter’s or anyone elses…his.

    • jaydickb

government will tell doctors and hospitals how much they can charge for each service, government will specify which services can be provided (that is, which are “medically and economically effective), government will determine how much insurance companies can charge in premiums (and thus how much profit they can make), and government will specify who insurance companies must accept as customers. Government will also require everyone to buy health insurance.

But a government takeover? Naaahhh. Just a bit of light regulation. Right.

Except that Republicans have never done anything effective in the entire history of the implementation of Medicare or Social Security or Medicaid or The Prescription Drug Benefit or …

Well, I think you get my drift. Don’t you?

Of course these folks are not afraid of what we will do when we’re back in control. We’ll do precisely what we did when we were in control all those other times.

    Nothing.

If we simply fix each of the problems, there’s no way to Trojan Horse the government-run healthcare. The goal here was an incomprehensible bill, because the Democrats believe that the public doesn’t understand what’s good for it, and therefore must be dragged in.

If you disagree, find a better reason why smaller fixes wouldn’t be more digestible and therefore more acceptable…

  • wgsampson

networks would post a body count for the Iraq war on the news every night. I would love to see Hannity or Beck start a body count of their own. When the Doctors start retiring early, put a count of how many people have lost their Doctors becausae of the Dems. As Insurance companies go out of business, put a number of how many people have lost their insurance because of the Dems. And when a child with a disability, or a senior dies because of rationed or denied care, put the number of that too. All of that blood will be on Dem hands and they must answer for it.

    Obama Lied – Grandma Died.

  • winterhawk

is a great post toby. Maybe pelosi isn’t going to get that bedpan because of her age and her position on the death panel list. Great way to look at this. I love it.

  • tdpwells

against big government – before you’re so eager to give up control to an adminstration you DID vote for, first imagine that same control in the hands of an administration you DIDN’T vote for.

    It isn’t rocket science.

  • mikedaire

… when we take control of congress we can have liberalism declared a mental disorder and commit them all to an insane asylum. Maybe this health care thing isn’t such a bad thing after all.

I would like to ask where do we draw the line with entitlements? Honest question. At what point do you feel satisfied?

    • tdpwells

Do we need health insurance to live? No. Do we need food to live? Yes. So where is the FREE FOOD FOR ALL entitlement? Don’t liberals care about all those homeless, starving children living under bridges? Clearly this needs to be addressed, and they are heartless for ignoring this dire need.

  • septembergurl

Obamacare, you utterly fail to understand the Democrat motivation here.

They are not worried about Republicans (or conservatives) controlling the death panels, because they believe that this legislaton will give them a permanent majority. In their view if this passes wthout any Republican votes, then Republicans will never control anything again.

The creation of a vast new entitlement is the goal here. It has nothing to do with health care — the bill contains unlimited Pell grants as a permanent entitlement, government takeover of college loans, etc.

Losing their Cadillac health care is the last thing these criminals are worried about.

    • http://www.tobytoons.com TobyToons

put something to that effect in the diary (yes, they probably really do believe that they will be in power forever).

  • wilfranc

of why the Constitution is a dead document. For those like Obama who believe it is living and its interpretation depends on the current crop of officeholders, what is truly utopian about their views is that they are somehow the final arbitrator of what the law of the land will be.

Every push that stretches the Constitution, means that the next group in office can push it further. The rules become fuzzy and open to emotive interpretation, which also means corruption becomes defensible.

Quite possibly, the next party that rules will outlaw the opposition entirely.

  • larryp

for obama care like that repulsive john Harwood and clueless Carl Quintanilla are in union and not subject to the Obamacare crep sandwich. Ithink they shoud have a running stringat the bottom, to wit…”News announcer is not subject to Govt health care rules”-full disclosure. Over and over.

  • ntrepid

I seem to recall when the line item veto was clearly unconstitutional under one president but unquestionably not a few years later when a Democrat congress granted the authority to their leader.

Friedman (Capitalism and Freedom) repeatedly warned of the pitfalls of centralized power and changes in those in control:

  • 4life

Call his Chicago office. They are answering the phone.

    773-224-6500

He switched from yes to no yesterday, then to undecided.

Let’s support him in his opposition!

And, I love the image of the real Rush as Healthcare Czar!

It will be fun to watch these Dems go down in November and beyond.

  • jyalai

Paulson, and GW Bush’s administration put forth a solution to a major problem without having any control over who would implement it. There was a lot of hope that the people coming in would know what they were doing, and would want to do the right thing.

I wonder if Paulson believes his stimulus has met his expectations?

I think that some Democrats need to be reminded of who may control all the committees next year including the ahhhh…cough..(ahem) ethics committee.
Maybe we could have a little peek at some bank accounts or tax records if you know what I mean.
    Pay back is gonna’ suck.
