Here is a run down of some recent polls for drilling for oil off the coast of US and the results were shocking in that even in liberal states people support drilling.

Survey USA Poll

New York

In general, do you support or oppose drilling for oil off the coast of the United States?

Support 66% Oppose 24% Other 9%

Do you support or oppose drilling for oil off of the coast of New Jersey?

Support 61% Oppose 30% Other 9 %

OH Poll

CA Poll

This is a winning issue for GOP I just wish McCain would get more vocal on it and the Republicans need to keep the pressure on this.

  2. Heh ... as I read down, I saw...

"OH Poll" and expected the next question to be "In general, do you support or oppose drilling for oil off the coast of Ohio?"

barrel. We can't lose if our R leaders start getting vocal. If I hear another D say "the first barrel of oil won't be pumped for 10 years" blood will shoot out of my eyes. I was a roughneck on a rig in Kansas and Colorado. It took about 3-4 weeks to poke a hole and another couple for the casing crew to finish the job. Average hole depth; 4,500 to 5,500 feet. These naysayers are speaking out of their @$$es. They have no idea.

I'm brand new to RS but I can tell I prefer this format already. I feel the same way, Americans can do anything when you let them.

Can you offer any helpful pointers or tips on posting etc...will be very much appreciated. Also, is there a feature to allow a sidebar discussion with someone (not public). Thanks so much, I look forward to some great discussions.

      1. Thanks. I'm still trying to figure it

out myself. The help button is on the very top right of the site's page.

I strongly believe that one of the biggest culprits currently convincing Americans we can't do this or we can't do that is the public school system and the educational malpractice of teaching American history. So many of our young people don't appreciate just how special America is and how we've faced up and defeated huge challenges in the past. We can do anything we put our minds to. If Senator McCain wins, I pray he will do something to fix the travesty of American history curriculem our youngsters are being taught. Like Rush Limbaugh says, "ignorance is the most expensive commodity in America". Have a good one.

I for one am a retired Navy Chief, and nothing used to piss me off more than for someone to tell me "it couldn't be done," I took that as a direct challenge and every Sailor that ever worked for me, is the same way now. We took what the country gave us, in same cases, the kids were raised right, in other cases, they need some severe recalibrating -- but, they were always better for it.

My 19 year old son is now in the Coast Guard...I made sure that he learned that real Americans don't start to solve a problem by blaming America first - America is usually the solutions an problem.

Thanks for the tip to by the way.

Out of highschool, I wanted to follow my Dad's service in the Army. My high frequency hearing was shot from working on the farm and they wouldn't let me in (1987). When I finished college, I looked into it again. They said they could waive the hearing problem that time, but I had met my now wife by then and passed up the opportunity. I regret that I didn't serve to this day. I try to teach my twelve year old son everything I can about America's greatness, and he likes to listen to Rush and Sean with me when I'm home.

Your comments struck a chord with me.

...and nothing used to piss me off more than for someone to tell me "it couldn't be done," I took that as a direct challenge...

There has been an effort to instill dependence on the government over the past years. We need social programs, we need bailouts to help the unfortunate, etc.

It seems to me the politicians want to keep this under wraps (i.e., control). This oil & energy situation is an example.

While their main focus was steroids in sports and dog & pony shows with oil company CEO's, bashing Pres. Bush, the main issues were neglected.

I had once asked a gentleman from South Africa a simple question; How are Americans perceived? And would you call us arrogant as a whole (which seems to be the general consensus with some of our "allies" and MSM reporting)?

I was pleasantly surprised by his candid reply; No we don't think of you as arrogant, we tend to think you have a lot of confidence!

That, I think ties back in with your comments. We as a whole can do anything we collectively set our minds to and in general, most of us react to being told no in the same way you mentioned.

When there is a problem to be solved; lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way!

They were faced with a truly "do or die" situation, with oxygen systems that had incompatible couplings. Fortunately, they hadn't heard of "can't."
