I really don't have more to say about this except that it's a great idea! I think I'll order some for family!

I tried to update the link but they were identical. Something to do with the Internets or something.

  3. ask your mechanic

    mrmuntz (link)

ask your mechanic if proprerly inflated tires will improve your fuel mileage. the answer will be yes. up to 5% improvement. im a mechanic. it works!

    1. It won't improve my mileage

      Joe_Schmo (link)

I drive a performance car and I own a compressor. My tires are checked every weekend and have stayed at 35 pounds of air since I bought the car.

Since you are a mechanic, explain to me how continueing to keep the tires properly inflated improves my gas mileage one iota.

    2. Of course this is nothing but

      ehosterman (link)

a wives tale without any firm data to back it up. Check out this link to Edmunds, where they test the claims on fuel savings; (http://www.edmunds.com/advice/fueleconomy/articles/106842/article.html)

Their conclusion: "No matter how many times drivers hear about the importance of tire pressure, most of them don't do anything about it. They probably don't like squatting beside their car in a busy gas station with fumes swirling around them. But is it important? The answer is yes, for a number of reasons. Properly inflated tires are less likely to fail at high speeds. They wear more evenly and, yes, they deliver better gas mileage. How much? In this test we saw a modest difference in two of the cars. It might have been more dramatic with different tires on different cars. Experts swear by it; we couldn't really document it. And we wound up wondering if tire technology, like the design in other areas of the car, had improved."

So with regard to your claim of up to 5% savings - maybe, if your tires were flat to begin with. And, yes, I also maintainn my cars properly and keep the tires inflated. So how much gas can I save? This is a nice anecdote, but hardly an energy policy.

    3. While you are at it...

      Joe_Schmo (link)

...my car is a 2005 Mustang GT and Obama says I can also save fuel mileage by getting it tuned up.

Just exactly what is the procedure for me to follow to do this tuneup?

  4. So why did McCain have to go and ruin it?

    bantamwait (link)

"We should all inflate our tires. And I think that the American Automobile Association is right, as well as others are." Okay, fine, but what's wrong with staying on message?? Arrgh!

  5. Cap n Trade

    jackbenimble (link)

    Nice gimmick!

Now if only McCain would sign on to drilling in ANWAR and abandon his insane Cap and Trade legislation, there would be an actual substantive difference between McCain and Obama on energy policy.

As things stand now it is pretty much just a distinction without a difference. Paris Hilton has a better energy policy than either of them.

"I repudiate the idea of voting for a Democrat

    1. that is ridiculous....

      Aaron Gardner (link)

....McCain and Obama are very different in their energy policies. Obama is against nuclear energy, McCain is for, Obama is against OCS, McCain is for, Obama is against oil shale, McCain is for.
