Obama needs a "McCain" as his VP: Someone with a lengthy resume, fairly vanilla, foreign policy expertise.
McCain needs an "Obama" as his VP: Someone perhaps short on experience, yet with a "WOW" effect. Someone the media will cover wall-to-wall.
If McCain goes vanilla, he can kiss the election good bye. Romney, Pawlently, Ridge, Huntsman, and Crist are "do no harm" nominees. But they won't add anything either.
Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska, is that "Obama" pick. Good looking, female (have to stop from making a joke here), articulate -- if a bit short on seasoning. And what a life story she has (Miss Alaska; child with Down Syndrome). VERY pro-drilling. Pro-life.
McCain doesn't need "experience", he needs "WOW". A McCain/Palin ticket WINS this election.

the biggest concern about Mccain is age and how long he will be in office. Putting someone in with little experience makes no sense. I say put in Romney and compete for Michigan.
The reality is the veep choice means little. Either McCain is going to take the gloves off or not. The election will be decided by the top of the card. Also, America is punch drunk right now, we can all feel it, personally I agree with Hannity, it really does not matter who wins, if you don't get that, then I am feel sorry for you.
We want our guy to win, but we are individuals, men, we have to make our own way regardless of the outcome. Alaska does not have many delegates, and seems a cinch for Repubs. Is she really the right choice? Could you link to some powerful oratory? I could not pick her out of a line up.

McCain needs a VP that has National Exposure

Well spoken, VP can only hurt you, they usually don't help much. To put someone on the ticket without National exposure is asking for Trouble. Ask Bush Senior.
If she is so great, why isn't she making the speaking rounds for McCain.
I think he should pick Micheal Palin nt

Pail would be a great choice for the reasons you describe. I do not agree that VP picks can only be hurtful or neutral; in this election, we have a huge body of female moderates who wanted Hillary but who might be willing to go for a "moderate" Republican in McCain if he picks a strong female.

time for out of the box choice is almost gone

Once the Olympics start on 8/8, the time to introduce a surprise choice will be gone. If Palin has a chance she will need to be announced soon. I don't see it happening.
Instead, it looks like McCain will wait for Obama to go first. That raises the odds for an orthodox veep selection. My guess is one Ridge, Portman, Romney, and Giuliani.
Of those Ridge is the most problematic because he is distrusted by all three conservative factions (social, economic, and security). Giuliani has enough support among economic and security conservatives that he could scrape by. But these are the final four in my view unless McCain makes his announcement really soon.
