Colorado Governor Bill Ritter (D) was asked on the Mike Rosen Showabout his reluctance to be considered for Obama's Veep.
The meat of Ritter's response?
"I’ve been governor for 18 months. It’s been a great experience. But it’s just 18 months…Obama has to think about experience…levels of experience…”
Later a caller to the show pointed out that Obama had been a Senator for a 143 days when he decided to run for President, and made the obvious point:
“Governor, you said 18 months’ experience wasn’t enough experience as governor to be the vice president. Would you want to contrast that with the 143 days experience Obama as senator before he decided he had enough experience to be president.”
The best Ritter could do was:
"All I can tell ya is I am a fan of Barack Obama’s. Met him in 2004 during his campaign for Senate…You meet him and discover there’s something very different about him. That’s all I’ll say."
So there you have it--eighteen months in an executive position is insufficient to qualify one for the office of Vice-President, but a bit less than five months as a Senator is more than enough to decide that one is qualified for the Presidency.

Ouch. Recommended.

to be considered as a candidate for vice president. It is my considered opinion that my service as 9th grade student board representative does not constitute sufficient experience for the post. I'm willing to go on record as saying that Barack Obama is quite a guy.
Bill Ritter under consideration for Veep? In his mind! What an egomaniac.
The problem with letting history judge is that there keeps on being more of it!
This just begs to be made a commercial....

..although I believe the real reason Gov. Ritter doesn't want to be on the ticket is that he hasn't finished screwing us here in Colorado.
This man actually signed a bill that allows Transvestites and anyone who proclaims themselves to be of the opposite sex to use public restrooms of the opposite sex. All in the name of anti-discrimination of course.

At a guess, I'd say the "something different" is probably related to the leg-tingling and the choir of angels that sing every time he opens his mouth.
At least, that's what the press would have us think.

needs to get the message that Democrats are not immune to the Racial Inquisition, even Obama Superdelegates like Steve Cohen.
Ritter should have gotten a note from his doctor saying he would die at a lower elevation, instead of pointing a big neon sign at one of Obama's biggest weaknesses. And then he calls him "different"??? Might as well have called him "articulate".

143 days?

What date range was that caller talking about? Not that I am an Obama supporter, but he was in the Senate for two years before he decided to run. He was sworn in January of 2005 and decided to run in January of 2007. Still nowhere near enough experience, but more than 143 days. When you consider that being an executive is about twice as demanding as a legislator, Ritter is still probably more quaified than Obama is.
143 days!

From the time Barack Obama was sworn in as a United State Senator, to the time he announced he was forming a Presidential exploratory committee, he logged 143 days of experience in the Senate. That's how many days the Senate was actually in session and working.

I thought it might be that, but I seriously did not think 2 years of Senate sessions were only 143 days. Kinda scary, when you consider we pay them about 150,000 a year.......that means Obama got 2000 dollars for every day of work he did?
What was that about windfall profits, Senator?
thanks for the clarifaction

Kinda scary that we pay these guys about 150,000 a year, and they are only in session 143 days over a 2 year period.
Whose making windfall profits now?
thanks for the clarifaction
