Liberal Media Shutdown
Rather than engaging the in the crisis mode editorializing on the government shutdown I would like to speculate on a more productive course of action. Presently the media is in a full frontal attack on the remaining vestige of American statesmanship. At Redstate we know that there is a viable alternative to getting your news from the mouthpiece of the Democrat party. The reporting and news that the AP, NY Times and other mainstream media sources provide has to be filtered to remove gross bias and inaccuracy. They think that they wield the power of the pen in despotic and monopolistic fashion.
But what if the liberal media didn't have the power they think they do? Suppose their ability to ruin a persons reputation was non-existent. If we took back the power that we allowed them to take from us, could they destroy anybody? What if when the media spoke, no one listened? People in New York and DC and other liberal cities need to realize that we do not respect the media, read them or respond to them. These institutions have become second rate news gathering organizations that must be put in context by someone else, because they have lost all credibility. Right now anyone with a cell phone can "report live" and "on the ground" about what is happening. Then people we trust can deliver the news. Let me repeat that so that you understand: they are dead to us.
David Carr the of the NYT THE MEDIA EQUATION column on media wrote a piece on Journalism’s Peril. http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/c/david_carr/index.html:
Now the new rage is “native advertising,” which is to say advertising wearing the uniform of journalism, mimicking the storytelling aesthetic of the host site.
Mr. McCambley (Joe McCambley, founder of The Wonderfactory, a digital design firm, helped build the first banner ad back in 1994) is wary. He says he thinks native advertising can provide value to both reader and advertiser when properly executed, but he worries that much of the current crop of these ads is doing damage to the contract between consumer and media organizations.
“It is a very slippery slope and could kill journalism if publishers aren’t careful,” he said.
In other words, publisher looking to save the village commons of journalism through innovation should be careful they don’t set it on fire in the process.
Even Carr doesn't get it. What is the mainstream media other than advertising for the Democrat party, the Liberal agenda and socialistic Keynesian economics masquerading as journalism?
These are entrenched interests with unified command that advertise their product, debauchery and dependency. Consider the argument of David Kupelian in “The Marketing of Evil” http://superstore.wnd.com/The-Marketing-of-Evil-Autographed-Hardcover. The “social contract” between the press and the people has been shattered and trampled on. There is no watchdog media, save the few conservative outposts that do all we can to hold the people’s representatives to account in Washington DC despite an insular information structure.
In one of the greatest examples of journalistic malpractice the AP reports that Republicans want to strip people of their health care. http://news.yahoo.com/wholl-blink-dems-gop-shutdown-stare-down-212703487--politics.html. Presumably this is because we Republicans like watching people die torturous deaths. Whether it is the AP report editorializing or favorably quoting Democrats and their talking points there has been no hiding the slant of the liberal media for decades. Decades. Decades.
We need to stop the madness. Cut off all contact with the media lapdogs of the Democrats. And, the Republicans need to reign in the plebs and enforce some party disciple. “No media for you!” John McCain, Peter King. If you talk to any network other than Fox or any paper other than the Wall Street Journal we will shut you down. This will occur regardless of the GOP but Rinse Priebus will get the message. And, more to the point, the news sites like the Blaze, NRO, Newsmax, Breitbart, Townhall, WND, and yes Redstate, even the Daily Caller and The Weekly Standard will and should fill the supposed void left by the leftwing press. For all I care any of these website are more credible than the lot of the liberal press.
We have 19 senators in Washington DC willing to stand up regardless of the political backlash.
From The Hill:
Cruz, backed by Tea Party groups, lobbied his colleagues throughout the week to block the bill in order to prevent Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) from removing the ObamaCare provisions. In the end, 19 of Cruz's colleagues backed him: GOP Sens. Jerry Moran (Kan.), Marco Rubio (Fla.), Richard Shelby (Ala.), Jame Risch (Idaho), James Inhofe (Okla.), Rob Portman (Ohio), Jeff Sessions (Ala.), David Vitter (La.), Rand Paul (Ky.), Mike Lee (Utah), Ted Cruz (Texas), Mike Crapo (Idaho), Mike Enzi (Wyo.), Deb Fischer (Neb.), Pat Roberts (Kan.), Tim Scott (S.C.), Dean Heller (Nev.), Chuck Grassley (Iowa) and Pat Toomey (Pa.).
We had what appeared to be a valiant effort by the house to pass a CR stripped of provisions for the destructive ObamaCare law. But now the house has stalled out and may very well concede. http://www.redstate.com/2013/09/30/house-gop-stand-your-ground/. Unless Boehner and the Republicans realize that the media's agenda is irrelevant they will continue to cower in fear of them.
We all know that this may be one of the last few remaining opportunities to turn back the tide of socialism sweeping over this country. And the economic considerations are only the least of our worries. This bill represents a sea change in the relationship between US citizens and our government that will engulf everyone. It is a wave of dependency that unchecked will crush the political will and personal responsibility of the vast majority of the American people.
And out political adversary is not only or primarily the Democrat party, it is the media. The main stream media is the greatest threat to retaining a constitutional republic, restoring the honor and dignity of our national heritage and setting us on the course for a brighter economic future.
Let me repeat that. It is the media. You know that the liberal media is destroying this country.
And, until the Republicans in Washington recognize that nothing will change. That is why we need a liberal media shutdown, and a shutdown of any elected Republican who speaks with the media.
I am strongly recommending that the Media Shutdown commence at 12:00 PM Friday October 4. This gives the GOP four days to prepare their response to the media outlets via our conservative media. As Barak Obama would say “let me be clear…” I am not recommending that our representatives discontinue contact with the voters, however the sham of media objectivity must be outed for what it is, advertising for the statists. Why else does the NYT publish Vladimir Putin's think piece. Next thing you know they will host Kim Jong Un's advice column: "Dear Leader."
This will get immediate attention by the liberal media. The media shutdown clears the way for all campaigns going forward. We have talked about going cold turkey from the press for the presidential and primary debates. I say start now.
I'm proposing that we use this government shutdown debate as an opportunity to point out what and who the media are. This criticism lands flat because we have accepted the premise that the media controls the narrative. In Washington DC this may seem to be true but those in Washington DC are living in an alternative universe and we know it. Ted Cruz has exposed you, and the little emperors have no clothes. And I don’t want to picture Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi parading around DC in their birthday suits.
This means that within five days Republicans can make their position known to the media that they will not tolerate a media that is a government apparatchik. We will no longer do business with the party press for the Democratic Party. Our freedom of the press requires that the press is truly independent from the government. The revolving door of democrat staffers and liberal media positions is disgusting and incestuous. That must not continue. Not in this country. Our freedom requires a truly free press. When there's no watchdog the sheep are vulnerable to the wolves. This has to change and these towers must crumble, for everyone, networks, papers, everyone. This is a scorched-earth policy.
When the media supports the Democratic Party by calling Republicans terrorist and hostage-takers there is no objectivity. This media shutdown will demonstrate how the media support the Democrats and the way Democrats feed the media story-lines. The people of this country must see that exposing these media outlets for what they are is the only way to have a fair hearing for these issues in the court of public opinion. Therefore the shutdown takes place at 12:00 PM on Friday. A media that plays pin the tail on the elephant is not worthy of the name press. Assigning Republican blame for the government shut down must not be tolerated. The media will see that it is no longer own businesses usual. This is how the media monopoly ends in America, we shut them down this Friday.
