A part of the Health Care debate has been completely overlooked. Hell, I even noticed that Glenn Beck didn't even mention this in his book.
One of the biggest points that progressives make in making the case for ObamaCare is that when you are fired or leave your job, you will lose your health care insurance. Next time you hear this nonsense, you can tell them about a Real American Hero. Nope, GI Joe can't help you with this one, but COBRA.
COBRA is short for the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1986. Passed by congress and signed into law by President Reagan that, among other things, allows employees to continue health insurance coverage after leaving employment. Next time someone starts to tell you that there is nothing out there for employees to continue their current covage, you can give them a loud "COBRA! LALALALALALALA!" and explain to them about this wonderful program that is already in place.
You can also tell them that only 10% of people eligible for this program actually sign-up, so a lot of people who could have used it, didn't. And thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, they can now get a 65% covered by the government.
So what was once a fictional terrorist organization, is now a full throated government welfare program. Only in America.
