Another “Is Richard Nugent Really A Fiscal Conservative?” moment has come up.
But come, I will hide nothing from you. I got the follwing information from none other than Jim Piccillo, the sole Democrat running for Florida’s Fifth. I called his office to get a comment on the news of the day* and ended up doing an impromptu phone interview with the guy. More on that interview after the primary. However during the interview, he gave me this bit of shocking information: Nugent requested and got $268,000 in Stimulus Funds under the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG).
However before I put this out, I needed proof. Piccillo was more than happy to show me this document**: Recovery Act: Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program (Page 41)
Let me break this down for you: Stimulus money went into the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, a program that only helps only law enforcement. That money must be requested. And it was clearly requested by Sheriff Richard Dick Nugent.
I tried contacting the Nugent campaign to get his side of the story. They said I have to contact Nugent the Sheriff and not Nugent the Candidate. You know what, that is not going to fly with me. If Richard Nugent wants to plaster Sheriff all over his campaign site, then he can answer my question!
Also, I just happen to take a look at the FEC site and guess what? Nugent’s campaign owes more than they have on hand. Jason Sager, while he has less money, doesn’t owe anything.
The narritive that Richard Nugent is fiscal conservative, has come to an end. I support the true conservative in this race, I Stand With Sager!

PS: Just to head off any criticism, I will in no way support Jim Piccillo. I support Jason Sager from now until November 2nd.
*That shocking answer and more, after the primary. 😉
**This is public information. I could have found this myself, he just showed me where to find it. I’m just providing a direct link to it.
