Republicans voted against a slush fund, not equal pay for women.
There has been a series of editorials in my local paper attacking my new Represetative, Aaron Schock, for “voting against equal pay for women” and promising to remember this affront for the next election. This just didn’t sound right so I did some checking. For one, I thought it was already illegal to provide different pay for people based on their sex and also it didn’t fit with the personality of Aaron Schock.
So I went to Thomas and searched for “equal pay”.
Imagine my surprise when I found out that he voted against not 1 but 2 bills that, according to the labels, provided for equal pay for women.
H.R.11 and H.R.12 have titles indicating that they will provide equal pay for women. I was shocked! It looked like the democrat attacks were true! Then I read the bills and the nearly identical bill in the senate, S.182.
All 3 bills made minor modifications to the text of existing laws against pay discrimination. The meat of it was “2) by striking `any other factor other than sex’ and inserting `a bona fide factor other than sex, such as education, training, or experience'; and”. I thought, well that’s a relatively minor change. Why would they bother voting against that? It doesn’t really change the law and it gives the Dems another vehicle to attack us.
The answer is a little farther down. There is an appropriations clause that spends another $15,000,000 of our money (I know, a drop in the bucket compared to porkulous, but every bit matters).
“(3) ELIGIBLE ENTITIES- To be eligible to receive a grant under this subsection, an entity shall be a public agency, such as a State, a local government in a metropolitan statistical area (as defined by the Office of Management and Budget), a State educational agency, or a local educational agency, a private nonprofit organization, or a community-based organization.“
Private nonprofits??? Community-based organizations????? Another slush fund?!!!!!! Good lord these Democrats are sneaky evil little
bastardsdevils. They get a new slush fund to pay off their friends at the same time they get to bash Republicans for not supporting equal pay for women!
So, if your Representative or Senator is also being bashed by Democrats for voting against equal pay for women. Now you know the rest of the story. Write letters to the editor in response to all those slams and tell the truth.
