On Wednesday evening, President Barack Obama delivered an address to a joint-session of Congress in the hopes of strengthening public and legislative support for his health care reforms, but shrewd Republican Capitol Hill researchers note that the President’s carefully-crafted speech was missing one important element – namely, the troops.
While the president consciously rallied fleeting progressive support and attempted to dispel myths surrounding the legislation, he wholly neglected to mention military personnel, becoming the first wartime Commander-in-Chief to do so since former President Gerald Ford in 1974.
With public approval of the war effort in Afghanistan dipping, the case could be made—and with little difficulty—that the decision not to mention the troops serving in Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere was a conscious, deliberate one.
Obama’s progressive base is rebelling, raucously in some instances, on everything from the public option to LGBT marriage equality. As it stands now, the President’s political house has been beaten and battered, and a commitment to the Afghanistan War just may be the big, bad wolf to come blow it all down. And this is not a risk the White House is willing to take.
The collapse of public resolve for the ongoing but unmentioned efforts in Afghanistan is symptomatic of the Administration’s timidity with fully committing to the war. Americans look to their President in times of war for leadership and guidance. Our President’s silence can mean only one thing, and it surely is not victory.
For the very commonsense reason that you can’t trust the people who would be pulling the trigger. No, really: that’s what she said.
Sen. Collins’ position on this does make it clear that the ‘public trigger’ scenario for a government option in health care is not actually bipartisan.
It sounds like the Democrats just ran out of possible Republicans to give them cover. Guess they’re going to have to run over their own moderates to pass this health care rationing bill, then.
The Obama Administration is now saying that illegal immigrants will be specifically prevented from obtaining coverage under the president’s health care proposal. The chage comes on the heels of Rep. Joe Wilson’s (R-SC) “You lie!” outburst during Obama’s health care address to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday. Although the president denied from the rostrum of the House chamber that illegals would be covered by the plan, the Administration thought it necessary to make changes to the existing proposal in order to clarify the issue.
But the bigger story the MSNBC missed with its focus on the Wilson flap is found in the second bullet point sent out by the White House last night. The Obama Administration inadvertently confirmed that the president’s plan will begin a slow take over of the health care system by the federal government.

Hope Yen is an Associated Press writer. That’s as opposed to a "reporter", or a "journalist", or indeed anything at all except a propagandist for the Democratic Party and its friends.
Writing about the Census Bureau severing its ties with ACORN, Ms. Yen tells Associated Press readers that ACORN "has been hit with Republican accusations of voter-registration fraud."
Imagine that. Just a little partisan bickering, according to Ms. Yen. Nothing to see here folks, move along.
I guess she’s hoping that her readers have short memories, because it was only Wednesday that the Miami-Dade (Florida) State Attorney’s Office “issued arrest warrants for each of the 11 suspects, all of whom worked for the local chapter of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now or ACORN.”
Kerry Picket has done a great job of piecing together a story that looks an awful lot like administration officials using taxpayer money to buy support for its agenda.
The Obama administration has done everything but say ‘millions in grants in exchange for support on health care.’ And they may have said that, too - just not publicly.
Congress is eager to investigate the CIA, do you suppose they can spend some time at another 3-letter agency?
This one is one of the classiest I’ve gotten in the last 48 hours. You should see all the hate mail I’m getting — a lot of it directed at me personally for calling Joe Wilson a great American hero.
This particular email, which you can read in its entirety in the full posts, hopes someone guns down Joe Wilson and me.
The Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), has shut down Democrat efforts to punish Joe Wilson (R-SC) for yelling at Barack Obama during Obama’s speech to Congress.
George LeMieux (R-FL), Charlie Crist’s errand boy and the newest Republican Senator, is calling for Joe Wilson to be censured. That puts Charlie Crist’s errand boy to the left of Nancy Pelosi.
LeMieux remains undecided on government run health care, supports cap and trade, and supports the President’s big spending agenda.
George LeMieux says he is “a Charlie Crist Republican.” What we are learning about Charlie Crist Republicans is that they are not Republicans at all, just placeholders for a left wing agenda.
President Obama, please keep it up. You are the best thing the conservative movement has going right now. I have never witnessed the passion against all of your ideas since the waning days of the Carter Administration.
After President Barack Obama was sworn in with soaring approval ratings and a mandate for leadership, many were worried. Not so much these days.
According to Gallup, Obama’s poll numbers have dipped from 69% to 53%. This is lower than Presidents Kennedy, Bush 41, Bush 43, Eisenhower, Nixon and Carter. Please keep pushing forward Mr. President, because whatever you are doing, it is working.
