OH SNAP: Ben Sasse’s Masterful Burn on GOP is Perfection

In a disappointing sign that the House Republican Conference has not earned and does not deserve to retake the majority in the House of Representatives, a bunch of people are confirming for me today that the House GOP has decided to sign on with ACORN and endorse Dede Scozzafava in NY-23.As I reported the other day, Scozzafava has repeatedly been backed by ACORN in state legislative elections in New York. Scozzafava maintains a voting record the Working Families Party, ACORN’s political arm, supports.Likewise, Scozzafava has serious issues on the personal front. To top it all off, Scozzafava would have voted for TARP, the bailouts, the stimulus, etc.Doug Hoffman, the conservative candidate, would caucus with the Republicans. He is endorsed by Fred Thompson, the Club For Growth, and conservatives across the nation. Scozzafava was encouraged by the Democrats to run as a Democrat. That the GOP would support a candidate who is more aligned with the Democrats on core issues than the GOP signals the GOP is in this to win at any cost, damn the principles. It is exactly that attitude that caused voters to send the GOP packing. Please click here for the rest of the post.
Continuing his descent into insanity, Alan Grayson went back to the floor of the House of Representatives today to apologize for saying Republicans want people to die — oblivious to his own support for euthanasia and abortion on demand.Instead of apologizing, Grayson said he wanted to apologize to Americans for this “holocaust” in health care.Grayson, who thinks the Anti-Defamation League is “a crazy racist institution”, can neither see the irony or shame in his statement. The holocaust was real with a real meaning. Roping it into the health care debate cheapens what it was all about. And what is truly ironic is Grayson champions a system that actually would compel people into terminating their elderly relatives’ lives as the elderly suffer at the back of a rationed health care line withering and dying. Please click here for the rest of the post.
Slate’s John Dickerson has finally said what has been so glaringly obvious for so many months, but has been ignored, not discussed and generally denied by the MSM and the supporters of ObamaCare with great discipline: the internal divisions inside the Democratic Party over specific policy issues contained inside ObamaCare could cause it to collapse . . .Please click here for the rest of the post.
The Hill reports that the Senate Finance Committee has authorized participation in Obamacare by illegal aliens.Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) says of Senator Grassley’s amendment, which would prohibited illegal aliens from taking advantage of a public option until the Democrats killed it, “The way I see the amendment, it’s a solution without a problem.”This is simply another exercise in the Democrats attempting to not only nationalize the US health care system but use it as a magnet to attract a dedicated Democrat voting bloc, illegal aliens. Please click here for the rest of the post.
See, the problem with President Obama doing things like jetting off to Copenhagen to lobby for the Olympics – besides the fact that it’s kind of degrading for the President to wade personally into that sort of thing – is the things he isn’t doing. Now, I don’t think the president has to personally do everything; a major part of the job is making decisions and delegating their implementation. Bill Clinton once remarked that the worst mistakes he made as president were all when he was tired. I prefer a president who gets a good night’s sleep, gets some exercise and takes vacations to clear his head, etc; it’s more important for the head of state to have good judgment and perspective than to be showy about being a workaholic. But some parts of the job you shouldn’t blow off, especially when they involve making the most serious sorts of decisions, and when you then end up procrastinating those decisions on the grounds that you need more time to figure out what to do, as witness this NY Times report about him finally preparing for a videoconference with our commander in Afghanistan yesterday . . .Please click here for the rest of the post.
The Supreme Court announced today that it will decide, in McDonald v. Chicago, whether the Second Amendment applies to state and local gun laws. That puts the focus on the Court’s newest Justice, Sonia Sotomayor, and on President Obama’s future picks for the Court.Gun owners were alarmed by Sotomayor’s nomination to the Court, because of her “extreme anti-gun philosophy” and record on the Second Circuit, in the words of former NRA president Sandy Froman. At her Senate hearing this summer, Sotomayor defended that record by saying that her hands were tied by old Supreme Court precedent. Now that she’s on the High Court, her hands are no longer tied. She will have a lot of explaining to do if she decides in McDonald that the right to keep and bear arms is the only significant right in the Bill of Rights that doesn’t apply to the states. Such a decision would indicate that she was not serious when she promised the Senate that she would put the rule of law above ideology. Please click here for the rest of the post.
