Friday’s announcement that Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize – having been nominated a grand total of 12 days into his presidency – officially places Obama and the Nobel Committee alike beyond parody. There’s no stereotype of liberals they won’t embody. Could you possibly come up with a storyline that more perfectly captures the whole idea of Obama – all talk and promises and of course self-congratulation, and nothing to show for it? At least they haven’t (yet) renamed the prize after him, but I assume that future winners will be given a framed commemorative picture on black velvet of a shirtless Obama astride a unicorn. This is the most self-evidently ridiculous award since Rafael Palmeiro winning Gold Glove for season when he played only 28 games in the field. The ESPYs are now a more prestigious award than the Nobel Peace Prize.I can’t top Benjamin Kerstein’s thoroughgoing vivisection of what this all says about Obama, but let me add a few thoughts of my own. Please click here for the rest of the post.
Byron York has an interesting look at Barack Obama’s speech to the Human Rights Campaign on Saturday night. The Center for American Progress, which is the outside the White House arm of the administration, claims Obama signaled that he is standing by Jennings. Maybe, but as Byron York notes, maybe not. What Obama actually said was, “And it’s for this reason if any of my nominees are attacked not for what they believe but for who they are, I will not waver in my support because I will not waver in my commitment to ending discrimination in all its forms.”No one is attacking Kevin Jennings for being gay.People are after Kevin Jennings for being a supporter of pedophilia advocates and NAMBLA supporters.People are after Kevin Jennings for encouraging a sexual relationship between a fifteen year old boy and a grown man who solicited the kid in a bus station bathroom.People are after Kevin Jennings for being named “Safe Schools Czar” while under the believe that schools cannot be safe as long as the Boy Scouts of America are allowed to meet in public schools.People are after Kevin Jennings because he believes kindergardeners should be taught about gay sex.People are after Kevin Jennings not because of who he is, but because of what he has and is advocating — a complete rejection of common decency in favor of the most radical aspects of the gay agenda including, but not limited to, man-boy sex.It is pathetic that we even have to write about such topics here, but that is what it has come to, thanks to Barack Obama’s open mind, so open that all decency and perversion are treated as just equally acceptable non-conflicting alternatives. All decency, that is, except traditional American values. Please click here for the rest of the post.
The Politico has an article out today on tea party activists getting involved in their local political parties. I’ve been preaching on this for a while. The reporter, Alex Isenstadt, interviewed me for his article and gave me the last word. I’m partial to my quote:
For some, supporting insurgent campaigns or waging primary bids just isn’t a strong enough signal to send to a Republican Party that has abandoned core conservative policies.Erick Erickson, founder and editor of the influential conservative blog RedState, has urged Tea Party activists to “put down the protest signs” and stage takeovers of local Republican parties.“Grassroots activists need to start infiltrating the party,” said Erickson. “The only way to start getting [the establishment] back is to start pounding them with every fist we have.”
Could you make your family budget look good in a ten-year analysis if you counted ten years of income but only seven of expenditures? That’s what the Congressional Budget Office did in their report on Senator Max Baucus’s health care bill.Their subpar accounting includes revenue from tax increases and cuts to Medicare and Medicare Advantage starting in 2010. However, the bulk of expenditures begin in 2013, when many of the bill’s programs go into effect. It sounds like the CBO has started taking accounting tips from old Enron manuals. How can Democrats be taken seriously if they use ten years of revenue to pay for seven years of expenditures? Please click here for the rest of the post.
Senator Jim DeMint (R, SC) is back from Honduras – despite the best efforts of the Democrats to stop him from going – and he’s unkind about what has been pretty obviously an attempt by the American government to admit that we made a mistake and picked the wrong side of the Honduras issue. Please click here for the rest of the post.
While the cognoscenti of the Western financial world is attempting to spin the recent fall in the dollar as a stylish financial mystery play with a journalist based in the Middle East as its star, the Whodunit spin is a red herring: the facts are that the dollar is weak, and getting weaker. The world is awash in dollars. There is a massive oversupply. We are electronically creating (printing in another era) hundreds of billions of dollars to buy our own T-Bill. Our deficit and spending has soared.Kudlow, in his column, “Save the Greenback, Mr. President” explains that solution is to remove the excess dollars from the market and to stop “printing so much debt.”Please click here for the rest of the post.
The Democratic National Committee is in full throated and irrational defense mode of Barack Obama’s social promotion into the Nobel Prize winner’s circle.“The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists – the Taliban and Hamas this morning – in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize,” DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse said in a statement. Now wait just a damn minute. The Nobel Peace Prize has gone to Yassar Arafat, Hezbollah, Jimmy Carter, and too many other terrorists and terrorist sympathizers to count. It looks like it is the Nobel committee throwing its lot with the terrorists and those who sympathize with them. Please click here for the rest of the post.
