On Sunday, John "Bowser" Bauman, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee were campaigning throughout South Carolina's First Congressional District ahead of Tuesday's special election between Mark Sanford and Colbert Busch.
Other than mentions in Adam Sandler's " The Chanukah Song" and "Parents Just Don't Understand" by D.J. Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Bauman has been largely missing from the American cultural scene since Sha Na Na went off the air.
Rep. Jackson Lee is a little more infamous in recent years. Via The Other McCain, Jonathan Strong of The Daily Caller recently wrote about the way Jackson Lee regularly abuses her staff and others in service positions. Be sure to read the story for the details of how abusive she actually is. A government affairs rep for Continental Airlines even called her scd to complain about Jackson Lee's behavior. She is also rude to her constitutents.
Texas on the Potomac reports that their " investigation revealed that Jackson Lee went through more staff more quickly than any other member of the Texas congressional delegation. Now, a new study by the Washington Times found that the veteran Texas Democrat had the highest turnover rate for all of Congress over the past decade."
Jackson Lee also wastes up to twelve hours on the day of the State of the Union just to get some face time on national television by staking out an aisle seat in the House chamber. She played the race card during debt ceiling negotiations and also when discussing Voter ID laws.
Additionally, Jackson Lee has said that entitlements are "earned." Earlier this year, Jackson Lee spent over $23,000 flying commercial, instead of on government aircraft with the rest of the Congressional Delegation led by Senator Mary Landrieu.
Rep. Jackson Lee gets 100% ratings from NARAL and the ADA. She also gets high ratings from the ACLU and various labor unions.
Elizabeth Colbert Busch also enjoys support of liberal groups and labor unions (including $70,000 from a union trying to stop Boeing from bringing jobs to what would be her district.)
Of course, Colbert Busch has tried not to advertise her actual positions so that she can come across as a moderate. In fact, it was reported that she deleted over 500 tweets from her campaign Twitter account.
If Sheila Jackson Lee is supporting her enough to come to the district and campaign for her, then Elizabeth Colbert Busch is far out of the mainstream of political thought in the First Congressional District.
