Cross-posted from The Quinton Report.
As was widely reported elsewhere, Baltimore County and the state education department in Maryland held a Common Core forum where a parent was arrested for trying to get tough questions asked that were being censored by the way the forum was set up. Dr. Dallas Dance, the Baltimore County Public Schools superintendent was presiding over that meeting. (The charges were later dropped against Robert Small after a public outcry.)
A Baltimore Sun article last week about complaints from teachers about the new curriculum contains the following passage:
Baltimore County Superintendent Dallas Dance acknowledged problems but expressed confidence the glitches would be worked out, and that teachers and students would adjust.
“We are building the plane as we fly it,” he said, adding, “but let’s be clear our passengers are safe.”
That sounds an awfully lot like what then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare – that “we have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it..”
One other note, despite what the media might tell you about only conservatives opposing Common Core forum, there is indeed liberal opposition to Common Core.
