With respect to his campaign, McCain needs to liberate his running mate from the former Bush aides brought in to handle her — aides who seem to have succeeded in importing to the Palin campaign the trademark defensive crouch of the Bush White House.
Why, oh, why ... in the name of all that is Holy would Steve Schmidt allow anyone who has ever had anything to do with the woeful political/communications operation of the Bush White House - the very worst of the worst in the history of the American Presidency (and I am including Jimmy Carter and James Buchanan) to have anything to do with Sarah Palin?
These people e.g. Dan Bartlett are only good for providing future White House staff (of both parties) examples of what not to do.
Given his silly decision to not explain to the American people what exactly caused this crisis during the first debate, and this ... the muzzling of his campaign's number one asset, I'm beginning to think McCain is having second thoughts about leaving the Senate.
