Well, it's official: via our own Brian Faughnan Senator Joe Lieberman has paid for his apostasy. For his act of political disloyalty, his fellow-Democrats have decided to strip him of his plum position once and for all:
...Senate Democrats agreed to take away Lieberman’s top spot on the Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Private Sector and Consumer Solutions to Global Warming and Wildlife Protection.
They weren't completely cruel, though: they gave Lieberman the sop of letting him keep his chairmanship of Homeland Security and Government Affairs. That's not much, compared to being the chairman of EPW's Private Sector and Consumer Solutions to Global Warming and Wildlife Protection subcommittee - but you have to let a man have at least a little pride.Hot Air has more, including the fairly interesting observation that this is actually slightly detrimental to the Democrats. Lieberman was able to pull in some Republican support for global warming initiatives, you see: and that's now a little less likely to happen. Which is a shame, no doubt: but the antiwar movement has to take precedence over somebody, and it looks like the global warming folks got volunteered for the job.
Works for me.
PS: No criminal charges against current interrogators planned by the incoming administration. They'll go with something "forward-looking," instead. That's Career Politician for "we're going to slap on a new paint job, say a couple of solemn things, then go with the current system."
Yes, it's a remarkably compact language.
