Denial Isn’t Just A River in Egypt.

GOP VP annoucement at 37,000 feet.

My flight to Milan, Italy on Friday had a stopover in Boston. When I got to the Denver airport, I suddenly realized that half of the eastern seaboard was trying to board flights back home after the DNC Convention. This included the first leg of my flight.

About an hour into the flight, the captain announced over the intercom that John McCain had selected his Vice Presidential running mate. After joking that we’d find out on our next flight, he announced that it was Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. The was such a gasp in unison, that I thought the oxygen masks were going to drop from the ceiling. I could hardly contain my excitement, but decided that was the wise move for me.

There were several women roaming about talking with others in small groups (isn’t think illegal on airline flights now?). I overheard one of the ladies near me insisting to the others that this trick by McCain wasn’t going to work. She looked right at me a few times. I don’t think I was very successful in hiding my cat at the canary grin. She probably saw feathers. You could just tell in her denials that McCain’s choice really, really bothered her.

For the record, I think this is a great move by McCain. She has more experience than Obama, and is a solid conservative. The McCain – Palin team will be extremely difficult to beat. I can’t wait to see the VP debates…
