Portland Has Known Terrorism Before
Does everyone remember the 24 hours after 9/11 when thousands of frightened New Yorkers rushed into churches to pray?
Yet most did not even know where a church was located because they had never been in one, or how to recite a prayer. Because most New Yorkers are atheists. They were reacting on a gut level to the catastrophe that had just descended on their city and believed that God certainly would salve them in their time of grief and shock.
But that’s not how it works, friends. You have to believe in God long-term and abide by His will continuously if you expect him to be there for you when the seas are rough.
Yet today the very same New Yorkers vote overwhelmingly for a president named Obama who says that America is not really a Christian nation, under whose presidency we are seeing increased terror activity like the Fort Hood murders and the Little Rock killer, and under whose Justice Department a top terror suspect named Ahmed Ghailani almost was completely acquitted in a civilian trial with a jury of New York City residents.
Now we have the case of the Christmas Tree bomber, Mohamed Osman Mohamud, who tried to detonate a fake car bomb that he thought was real at a Portland, Oregon Christmas tree lighting ceremony. Mohamud is a Somali-born naturalized US citizen who told FBI undercover agents that he dreamed of killing hundreds or thousands of Americans.
Fortunately for Portland, Mohamud was caught in an FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force sting operation, the same Task Force that the Portland city council voted 4 to 1 against cooperating with in 2005 because the council disliked Bush’s approach to terrorism. And because the JTTF would not allow the then-mayor a top security clearance to be able to investigate any JTTF discrimination on the basis of religion or political beliefs.
This is yet another example of how much threat to America is in progressivism and political correctness. This is the same kind of PC uttered by New York mayor Michael Bloomberg after the attempted car bombing in Times Square last May 1 when Bloomie did not suspect an Islamic terrorist. No, Bloomie said that the act was probably the handiwork of some Tea Partier angry with the health-care bill.
And now the current Portland mayor Sam Adams apparently is thinking that the city might now join the JTTF not because he now realizes that there is real danger out there, but because he trusts Obama more than Bush.
Portland is not new to terrorism. In 2002 a black Portland resident who had taken the name of Patrice Lumumba Ford was arrested for terrorist activity. Turns out that Ford had worked two stints as an intern in the office of mayor Vera Katz in 1998 and 1999, while Katz was one of the American mayors who said her city would not participate in a federal crackdown on terrorism after the September 11 attacks.
Ford was the son of a Black Panther, an Islamic convert and known for extremist ideas.
Hey, there’s a good candidate for City Hall!
Here is how wikipedia.org describes Ford, who became known as part of what came to be called the Portland Seven, who were arrested in 2002:
Ford, Jeffrey Leon Battle, October Martinique Lewis, (Battle’s ex-wife), Muhammad Ibrahim Bilal, his brother Ahmed Ibrahim Bilal, Maher “Mike” Hawash and Habis Abdulla al Saoub made up the original seven members wanted by the FBI.
On September 29, 2001, Battle, Ford and al Saoub were discovered while engaged in shooting practice in a gravel pit in Skamania County, Washington Also present was Ali Khalid Steitiye who did not become an indicted member of the Portland Seven on terrorism charges, but who was separately charged with other crimes. The group was discovered by Deputy Sheriff Mark Mercer who was acting on a tip from a neighbor who had heard gunfire in the pit. Deputy Mercer let the men go after taking their names and reported the incident to the FBI. Battle, Ford, and al Saoub went on to become the core of the “Portland Seven”.
According to the indictment, on October 17, 2001, Battle and al Saoub flew out of Portland International Airport en route to Afghanistan. On October 20, 2001, Ford and the two Bilals also took the same route out of the United States.
In November 2001 and January 2002, Ford wired money to al Saoub in China.
Ford returned to the U.S. on or about November 19, 2001.
The six male members of the group travelled to China in early 2002, with the intent of entering Afghanistan to aid the Taliban. Lacking visas and other documentation, they were turned back, and all but al Saoub then returned again to the United States.
On Thursday, October 3, 2002, a federal grand jury in United States District Court for the District of Oregon at Portland, Oregon, indicted Battle, Ford, the two Bilals, al Saoub and Lewis. On October 4, 2002 the FBI in Portland, Oregon announced the arrest of four of those original six on charges of aiding and, in some cases, trying to join Al-Qaida fighters. Battle, Ford and Lewis were all arrested that morning in Portland. (end of wikipedia.org excerpt)
Of course, the Portland media were all agog that this wonderful, well-spoken black activist could possibly be guilty of a crime, just as activists all over the Pacific Northwest will focus on exonerating Mohamud, saying he was entrapped. Yet FBI made sure that Mohamud was given every chance to back out, and Mohamud declined repeatedly.
Meanwhile lefties will now spend years searching for the arsonist who hit Mohamud’s Corvallis mosque while Adams surrounded Portland‘s mosques with a blanket of security.
Security for Muslims, that is, not for everyone else.
Here is what Christmas Tree bomber Mohamud said when asked if he was worried about targeting Portland: “In Portland?… Not really. They don’t see it as a place where anything will happen. People say, you know, why, anybody want to do something in Portland, you know, it’s on the west coast, it’s in Oregon, and Oregon’s, like you know, nobody ever thinks about it.”
Yes, indeed. He did not want to try and target, say, New York City which has a bulldog anti-terrorism program. He chose a soft target, a city with no inclination to suspect a rabid Islamist Somali or a radical intern in its own City Hall.
Back in New York City, many of those same prayerful residents fought like wolverines to prevent the trials of accused 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his co-conspirators from taking place in Manhattan because the high-profile nature of the crime would have caused a major security problem for the city.
What are they afraid of? After all, it is the mighty Obama in charge!
Yet many of these same New Yorkers are doing everything they can to allow a mosque to be built near the Ground Zero site by an extremist imam.
It is time for liberals in America to make up their minds about how they want to treat terrorism. But they never will because they are unstable people
In the Fort Hood case, a deranged Islamic fanatic who also happened to be a psychiatrist in the US Army was never singled out for scrutiny because the same forces of political correctness that reign in places like Portland and New York would not allow any study of the guy on account of his religion.
In the hours after 9/11, New Yorkers believed that God would help them even though they never had prayed to Him before. And liberals in America continue to believe that we can stop terror without believing fervently in anti-terrorism in the first place.
But that is not how it works, friends. No way.
