“I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities,” is one of several blistering criticisms that Sarah Palin said last night in her speech.
This cuts to the core of Obama precisely because being a community organizer is one of his central passions and something he devoted much of his life to.He also takes great pride in what he did. If you want to know what he did, he took money from terrorists and others and helped transform precisely nothing in a very broken place, Chicago.
“Community organizing is a process by which people are brought together to act in common self-interest.” Wikipedia definition
It is paternalism and cynical to assume that people are too stupid to band together themselves in their common self interest. The way to create a job for yourself as a community organizer is to say, “you are poor because the government owes you more, because of racism etc.” By blaming externalities, community organizers create massive groups of angry people who think they are victims of anything and everything besides stupid choices.
Please look into the teaching of Saul Alinsky. He was a communist who was a primary influence on the school of community organizing that Obama learned in.
“Alinsky promoted greater awareness of community organizing in academic circles, and those affiliated with Alinsky trained a generation of organizers, including César Chávez and Barack Obama.” Wikipedia
http://www.lucianne.com/threads22.asp?artnum=421834In this article the son of Alinsky praises Obama. There is also a brief discussion about what Alinsky taught. It was not, “coming together with new hope” it was all about getting people upset enough about their conditions that they banded together and demanded the government give them more money. If that sounds shocking to you, look it up!

Roland Martin almost cried as he argued that Sarah Palin made a big mistake when she mocked community organizers. He said his parents are community organizers. He said his parents are the ones who are helping people keep their home in the mortgage crisis. It is in part a measure of the failure of community organizers that led to the sub prime crisis, as people took on mortgages they could not afford, a personal mistake they now attempt to blame on banks or the government or anyone but the primary individual responsible. Community organizers are primarily at work in the inner cities of America, ostensibly helping elect leaders who will do what is best for them in regard to schools, crime etc. They have been active since the 1960s. Want a report card? Look at actual statistics! Look in places like Chicago and Detroit and Los Angeles where they have been most deeply engaged. FAILURE.
Effective community organizers are often called other names. Pastors. Visionaries. Missionaries. Motivators. They are people who say it is in the self interest of individuals in broken communities to take responsibility for their own actions and to make their community better through new and better choices. They offer a hand up in the forms of job training, education, no interest or low interest small business loans, home building and ownership society creation. They do not pit communities against others or tell people they are owed anything, rather they help people lift themselves out of the spiritual, economic and social poverty they are mired in. Roland Martin provoked this entire note but I hope that the Democrats do hit back on the community organizer line so that more attention is brought to Obama’s failure to help the people of Chicago by throwing gasoline on the fire of class resentment, racism and victimization.
