In his book, “The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness”, Dr. Lyle H. Rossiter, Jr. (a board-certified psychiatrist with over 35 years of diagnosis and treatment with regular and criminal clients) identifies that the ideology motivating “liberals” is in actuality a mental disorder.
“A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do,”
These roles are central to conservative thought and actions – so, I don’t have a problem with someone pointing out that dismissing these concepts as unimportant is crazy.
“A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation’s citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do.”
Wow – I’m not sure that I could have said that better – although I’ve seen many of you tackle these concepts and explain these as central tenets of conservative motivation.
Dr. Rossiter identifies that the liberal agenda preys on the weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:
- creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
- satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
- augmenting primitive feelings of envy; and
- rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating the individual to the will of government.
“When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious.”
Perhaps one day we will see “Liberal Identification Disorder” in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) published by the American Psychiatric Association – but then again, wouldn’t giving them a label just reinforce the victimization mentality that they already have?
