"Drill, baby, drill" (domestic drilling) is a partial answer to America's energy needs. Why is Obama doing the obvious right thing, and why now?
Obama to Open Offshore Areas to Oil Drilling for First Time

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is proposing to open vast expanses of water along the Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the north coast of Alaska to oil and natural gas drilling, much of it for the first time, officials said Tuesday.
The proposal — a compromise that will please oil companies and domestic drilling advocates but anger some residents of affected states and many environmental organizations — would end a longstanding moratorium on oil exploration along the East Coast from the northern tip of Delaware to the central coast of Florida, covering 167 million acres of ocean.
Under the plan, the coastline from New Jersey northward would remain closed to all oil and gas activity. So would the Pacific Coast, from Mexico to the Canadian border.
Drilling is the right thing to do, but since when did Obama ever do the right thing for America? What concessions did he get from the oil companies?
The proposal is to be announced by President Obama and Interior Secretary Ken Salazar at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland on Wednesday, but administration officials agreed to preview the details on the condition that they not be identified.
An administrative leak to the New York Times. Great.
But while Mr. Obama has staked out middle ground on other environmental matters — supporting nuclear power, for example — the sheer breadth of the offshore drilling decision will take some of his supporters aback. And it is no sure thing that it will win support for a climate bill from undecided senators close to the oil industry, like Lisa Murkowski, Republican of Alaska, or Mary L. Landrieu, Democrat of Louisiana.
Aha! Obama is not doing the right thing simply because it makes sense and it's the right thing to do for America!
Obama is doing this so that he can win votes for his job killing "cap-and-tax" climate bill! The bill everyone thought was dead, just like everyone thought that government-run healthcare was dead after Scott Brown's election. Everyone thought cap-and-tax surely died after the climategate scandal. Everyone thought cap-and-tax died because the Heritage Foundation showed it would be the largest tax in American history.
Remember how the Obama administration played hardball with California legislators--vote for healthcare and we'll give you water? Now it's vote for cap-and-tax and we'll allow you to drill for oil. Because just doing the right things and giving the American people water and gas must come at a terrible price. It's hard to believe that this is our government.
Obama/Soros has an agenda. It all must be done before November. They're not going to let up.
Don't be fooled by this announcement.
