Tuesday's MSNBC watching got me very, very angry at the "news" network. Maybe it's because the Dems are doing so well in the "lame duck" session, destroying our nation in the process. If you had no idea before of MSNBC's biases, Tuesday's "news" lineup really did have them all on display.
MSNBC NON-STORY OF THE DAY: JANET NAPOLITANO DOESN'T KNOW THE NUMBER OF DAYS IN A YEAR
All over the right blogs is the story that Janet Napolitano is protecting us, as she says, 24/7, 364 days a year. I predicted to myself that not a single MSNBC show would cover this story.
Not a single MSNBC show covered this story. Anyone can make errors, of course, but Janet Napolitano has made an awful lot of errors and should not be employed in such an important position.
Then I thought: Suppose Sarah Palin had tweeted that there are 364 days in a year, simply hitting the wrong number on the keyboard. Sarah Palin--a private citizen. Don't you believe that every single MSNBC show would mention that?
Democratic errors--not news. Republican errors--news.
LAWRENCE O'DONNELL CAN"T STOP BASHING SARAH PALIN
Lawrence O'Donnell can really go off the charts sometimes, particularly when talking about Sarah Palin. For his Sarah Palin vs. Michelle Obama s'mores segment, O'Donnell took a few swipes at Palin. In case you didn't get the point, O'Donnell used a sledgehammer to crack open your skull with his ideas. At the bottom of the screen was a scroll of failed VP candidates who never became president. This wasn't funny. This wasn't informative. This was completely deranged.
"COUNTDOWN" BASHES "60 MINUTES" STORY AND CHRIS CHRISTIE, SAYS THE IDEA THAT STATES ARE GOING BANKRUPT IS A HOAX
Sunday's 60 Minutes did a segment on "State Budgets: The Day of Reckoning." It's no secret that the states are running out of money. Even the New York Times has acknowledged the pension bomb in many, many stories. Even NYS Governor-elect Andrew Cuomo is gearing for a Chris Christie-like fight with the municipal labor unions. This is reality.
The Nation's Chris Hayes substituted for Keith Olbermann and scoffed at the story, stating: "are DMV employees really making us bankrupt?" Hayes interviewed economist Dean Baker, who called the 60 Minutes story "overblown" and "a hoax." I couldn't believe my ears.
The states needn't cut back when they have no money, said the professional economist. They should be spending more! Chris Hayes nodded in agreement. Chris Christie has it all wrong!
Municipal pension reforms should have happened two generations ago. No one gives out pensions and lifetime healthcare benefits in the private sector like the public sector gives out. Hayes and Baker agreed that the unions shouldn't sacrifice one penny; they'd negotiated and worked for their goodies. I'm from New York and I know the truth. The unions have owned the politicians forever; overtime is gamed to goose sky-high public pensions. But Hayes and Baker simply laughed that "austerity" (Merriam-Webster's word-of-the-year) was an answer--or should even be tried.
I felt like I'd been watching a television show where everyone had taken stupid pills.
MSNBC'S REPUBLICAN RACIST OF THE WEEK: HALEY BARBOUR
Haley Barbour had made a statement that his town in Mississippi had gone through racial integration without violence, and it wasn't that bad. MSNBC has been drawing knives both Monday and Tuesday. Plus, some people are commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War! How dare they!
The Ed Show trotted out its race expert -- Al Sharpton.
I waived my arms and pointed out that the Republicans are the party of Lincoln, who freed the slaves. Guess they don't understand that at MSNBC.
It's really amazing that I didn't shoot my tv today.
CHRIS MATTHEWS DEMONIZES MITCH McCONNELL FOR DOING HIS JOB
The opening segment on Hardball with Chris Matthews was "Payback is a Mitch." Mitch McConnell is blocking too many things! He wants to defeat President Barack Obama and put a Republican in office! "I've never seen a character like this," said Chris Matthews.
Really, Chris? You've never seen the Democrats fight Republicans? You've never heard a Democrat say that George W. Bush should be defeated? Chris Matthews, have you followed politics at all?
Did I say it's amazing I didn't shoot my tv today?
RACHEL MADDOW DOES HER SECOND DAY AT NYC's 92ND STREET Y, HAS MICHAEL MOORE AS A GUEST
Rachel Maddow had her second day in front of a racist, almost exclusively white crowd (oh, sorry, you can only say that about Glenn Beck's crowds). Maddow beamed that she had booked a super special guest, Michael Moore.
Moore explained that yes, they're indeed showing Sicko in Cuba. (Sicko is the absurd movie that claims that the Cuban healthcare system works. It doesn't. I've been to Cuba. Everyone knows it doesn't work--everyone not named Michael Moore. Maybe it played on Cuba's comedy channel.)
Moore said that he's paying Julian Assange's bail because he's interested in freedom. "We're fighting six wars," Moore said, adding Pakistan, Yemen and others. "We have to know what's going on." But Michael Moore, why don't you simply elect a Democrat anti-war president, like Barack Obama? Won't he tell you what you need to know? Moore said "SIX WARS!" and was mad about it, but there was not one mention of Barack Obama. Do you think Moore would show the same understanding to any Republican president fighting terrorism?
It really is amazing that I didn't shoot my television today.
RACHEL MADDOW PRAISES THIS UNDERRATED, UNAPPRECIATED GEM OF A PRESIDENT WHO GAVE US DADT REVERSAL, START, OBAMACARE, FINANCIAL REFORM...AND THE 92ND STREET Y CROWD LOVED IT!
Rachel Maddow discussed START with "the wonderful" Andrea Mitchell, and of course, both don't know a thing about how awful the treaty is. Up on Infowars.com is "9 Reasons Why The START Treaty Must Be Stopped." Heritage Foundation members have probably already seen "Twelve Flaws of New START That Will Be Difficult to Fix" or "The Illusory Linkage Between Nuclear Modernization and New START."
Here's the Maddow segment, and this was before Michael Moore's appearance: "Rachel Maddow reviews the legislative accomplishments of the past two years in the context of President Obama's promises and personal priorities, and notes that the next two years will be about defending what they've done from Republicans bent on reversal."
Obama's had a good month for him and he'll be very tough to beat in 2012. But these are really not "accomplishments."
Rachel Maddow won't tell you what employment rate Obama promised from the stimulus and what employment rate we have now. Rachel Maddow will NEVER show you the debt graph under Obama's job-killing, deficit-ridden administration.
SECOND MSNBC NON-STORY: THE FCC
I don't recall MSNBC covering the FCC's net neutrality decision. Must not have been important.
Tuesday's MSNBC "news" lineup featured all the usual biases. The Janet Napolitano non-story. The Michael Moore appearance. The Sarah Palin Derangement Syndrome segment. The "Mitch McDonnell Is Evil" Chris Matthews blowup at a the mostly powerless Republican minority leader. The racist Republican of the day (Haley Barbour) attack. The Rachel Maddow praise for President Barack Obama and the Democratic agenda, to great applause at Manhattan's 92nd Street Y.
It all caps a legislative year (November elections aside) when the bad guys won.
Hey, Texas, can I run for one of those four new Congressional seats?
