How else can you explain this massacre of civilians?
KABUL – The international Red Cross confirmed "dozens of bodies" on Wednesday in graves and rubble where Afghan officials alleged U.S. bombs killed civilians, and the Afghan president said his first meeting with President Barack Obama would focus on the issue.
The international Red Cross reported Wednesday that its officials saw women and children among dozens of dead bodies in two villages targeted by airstrikes, while the U.S. military sent a brigadier general to the region to investigate.
A former government official said up to 120 people died in the bombing Monday evening.
And I guess Jack Murtha can chime in, given his expertise in Marine matters, particularly his unique psychic ability to determine when troops commit cold-blooded murder on the other side of the world.
A Western official in Kabul said Marine special operations forces — which fall under the U.S. coalition — had called in the airstrikes. The official asked not to be identified because he wasn't authorized to release the information.
The timing is impeccable, since Karzai gets to unload on Obama in person.
Karzai, currently in the United States, will raise the issue of civilian deaths with Obama, a statement from Karzai's office said. The two presidents were scheduled to hold their first face-to-face meeting later Wednesday.
Karzai called civilian casualties "unacceptable."
But I'm guessing the response from the press will be a just a BIT more subdued than it would be had this happened oh, say 9 months ago. We'd see Code Pink protests on the nightly news, reporters asking the president if he was going to pull out given we were engaged in such a disaster, demands to bring troops to justice, etc.
