Joe Biden: A Humble Guy With Much to be Humble About

Just a little nugget from ‘Game Change,’ the book that has produced so many interesting tales from the 2008 campaign:

As Bayh was being scrutinized as a potential running mate for Barack Obama in 2008, Bayh arranged for a $5,000 doctor’s consultation to ensure that his recent weight loss did not indicate a health problem, according to the latest book on the 2008 presidential campaign…

Bayh was a finalist along with Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine and Delaware Sen. Joe Biden…

When she didn’t get the nomination and tried to guess whom Obama would choose, Clinton thought Biden had the best shot and Bayh the second-best.

Biden also thought he was the favorite, according to the book. Hearing in August that the others being vetted were probably Bayh, Kaine and Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, Biden is quoted as saying, “If that’s the group, I’m the guy.”

In one sense, I see what Biden means. Among Evan Bayh, Tim Kaine, and Kathleen Sebelius, there’s not a single heavyweight. I differ with Biden only in my view that that team of lightweights turns into a team of midgets with the addition of Biden. And for what it’s worth, it seems Barack Obama ultimately came around to my way of thinking.
