"Social justice" is a term that has been bandied about recently. Glenn Beck has said that Progressives are using "social justice" to transform America into what they want. Progressives have said that people like Glenn Beck use the term "social justice" to promote fear among the American people.
So, the question is: "What is social justice?"
According to Dictionary.com, social justice means "the distribution of advantages and disadvantages within a society." So, by definition, the concept of "social justice" focuses on advantages and disadvantages. With such a broad definition, we need to continue our research to see whether or not progressives are actually seeking "social justice" within our society.
According to Wikipedia.com, the concept of "social justice" takes on a more focused meaning. "Social justice" is intent on creating an egalitarian society. Now, the obvious question is "How can that be done?" "Social justice" wants to establish "economic egalitarianism" through progressive taxation, income redistribution, and even property redistribution.
Progressive taxation? Income redistribution? Those seem familiar. I remember where I heard them. Let's continue.
Progressive taxation means that the more you make the more you pay in taxes. As stated on AlterNet.org:
"Progressive taxation -- taxing the wealthy at higher rates than the poor…"
Does this sound familiar now? The Obama Administration, starting with Candidate Obama, has said all along that he intended to raise taxes on the "rich" which he defined as individuals making more than $250,000 a year. What do you mean I don't know what I am talking about?
In his conversation with "Joe the Plumber", Obama said:
"…I don't want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everyone who is behind you. That they have got a chance at success too…I think when you spread the wealth around that it's good for everybody."
Obama's tax plan is one every politician would love, especially if you are a Progressive. He is going to raise taxes on the rich by allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire. The top two tax brackets would return to 36% and 39% as they were under the Clinton Administration. According to TurboTax (Geithner's program), there are 10 new taxes or credits that will be changed in 2011 alone.
OK, so many things I could say but I am going to maintain my focus for now. However, one of the tenets of "social justice" has been fulfilled by the Progressives.
The concept of "social justice" wants to redistribute wealth to create a more egalitarian society. Obama clearly says that he wants to spread the wealth around in his conversation with "Joe the Pumber."
What? Not good enough? OK.
From the Washington Examiner and YouTube clips as well:
So, well-known Progressives, have clearly said that they want to redistribute the wealth and are using Obamacare as a means to that end. A second basic tenet of "social justice" has been fulfilled by the Progressives.
Did Glenn Beck actually get it right? Is that possible?
