Today's stupid liberal quote of the day comes from none other than our environmental commander-in-chief, the one...the only Barack Hussein Obama. Speaking on his vacation in Africa- a costly endeavour in these tough days of sequestration- he had this to say:
"...if everyone is raising living standards to the point where everybody has got a car, and everybody has got air conditioning, and everybody has a big house, well, the planet will boil over- unless we find new ways of producing energy."
Well, the "planet boiling over" comment is rather over the top to start with but fully expected from a man who claimed that his election in 2008 would start to heal the earth and stop the rise of the oceans. Can you say "messiah complex?" This is totally in keeping with the global warming alarmist rhetoric where, according to some, the fine citizens of Miami should be packing up and heading for Kansas because any year now they will be under water.
However, more appalling in this statement is the underlying theme. If Africans aspire to a higher standard of living, then they will be guilty of contributing to the non-existent "problem" of global warming. But more importantly, there is the implication that Africans should just accept their lot in life in the name of saving the planet.
This is a strange comment coming from the first African-American president. Well, actually first half African-American president; people forget his mother was white. Regardless, it becomes apparent that Obama believes that true Africans should "remain on the plantation" when it comes to increasing their standard of living. Instead of lifting themselves up, of course we will always be there to prop up corrupt governments (think Egypt and that Arab spring thingy).
If I understand this correctly, Africans should not aspire to things like car ownership, air conditioning, or larger homes. Instead of free market reforms and a commitment to free enterprise, the status quo, from an environmental standpoint, is better. I guess Obama wants for the Africa the same vision he has for America- a large welfare state run by corrupt governments. He started or accelerated that process on one-third of North America. Hopefully, Africa does not make the same mistake American voters made twice and that they do not heed his advice.
