Fiscal Responsibility Could Make Labor Our Friends (But Not Their Organizers)
We should protect laborers by passing a law in Nov that says unions shall not spend money on campaign contributions, PACs, lobbyists, etc unless they have their pension funds paid up to 97%.
That would include unions that represent labor groups with state/civic-funded pensions.
That would drive a handy wedge between the workers and the union bosses and get unions using what little political influence they have left to lobby for… getting those state/city paid pension fully paid up so they can lobby again. We’d see workers brazenly defying their union leaders.
Lawmakers who vote for such a law would be above reproach. Few would be able to honestly condemn their vote.
Then the rank and file will be showing up in front of the locals with ball bats.
