Like A Rock…We need to grab hold of IT again!

Tonight I am sitting here thinking of our soldiers in Iraq and other areas of the world. How the obama administration has pretty much written them off as a non-problem. Something that should go away so they don’t have to deal with obama being Commander In Chief.  And I had Bob Seeger’s Greatest Hits playing in the hard drive and Like A Rock rolled into position. Okay, the music in Mainstreet is my favorite Seeger piece but Like a Rock runs a close second. Mainstreet just scoots me back to 1968 in a heartbeat. Back to having 2 older brothers in military service. Am remembering all the fear I had in my 17 year old heart for them. One floating around on a boat, oh boy, and the other looking out over the lovely scenery in Korea, NOT. Each were shot at frequently and you bet when care package time came we crammed everything possible in.

Here we are now, all these years later and I find the same tears being shed for our soldiers in harms way all over the world. I never felt like this under any other president. Never. Never. Have spent 45 minutes trying to find the real numbers for soldier deaths in Iraq that were shown on foxnews a couple of days ago. Guess I haven’t got the knack right now to find it but obama’s number was incredibly large compared to GW’s time.

So, for inspiration perhaps I post this youtube video and hope it brings you enjoyment. Lyrics follow.

“Like A Rock”

Stood there boldly
Sweatin’ in the sun
Felt like a million
Felt like number one
The height of summer
I’d never felt that strong
Like a rock

I was eighteen
Didn’t have a care
Working for peanuts
Not a dime to spare
But I was lean and
Solid everywhere
Like a rock

My hands were steady
My eyes were clear and bright
My walk had purpose
My steps were quick and light
And I held firmly
To what I felt was right
Like a rock

Like a rock, I was strong as I could be
Like a rock, nothin’ ever got to me
Like a rock, I was something to see
Like a rock

And I stood arrow straight
Unencumbered by the weight
Of all these hustlers and their schemes
I stood proud, I stood tall
High above it all
I still believed in my dreams

Twenty years now
Where’d they go?
Twenty years
I don’t know
Sit and I wonder sometimes
Where they’ve gone

And sometimes late at night
When I’m bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin’ a ghostly white
And I recall
I recall

Like a rock. standin’ arrow straight
Like a rock, chargin’ from the gate
Like a rock, carryin’ the weight
Like a rock

Like a rock, the sun upon my skin
Like a rock, hard against the wind
Like a rock, I see myself again
Like a rock

Don’t think the embed worked, sigh. Will try again. I really need to learn how to do this stuff! Sorry. Okay think I got it but have no idea why it is so large. Sigh. God bless our soldiers, Laney
