1. Dear Senator Mike Enzi and Heritage Foundation: Shut Up.

Because I am a big fan and come from a family of donors to the Heritage Foundation, I take no pleasure at all in writing this post. But this must be said.

The Heritage Foundation, which played a vital part in building conservative support for Romneycare in Massachusetts, is setting the stage for Republican capitulation on healthcare. This is the second time in less than a year that Heritage will have been instrumental in organizing a conservative collapse in opposition to big government. The first time was when Heritage gave conservatives cover to support TARP, calling it “vital and acceptable.”

Now with healthcare, because Heritage is trying to be “helpful”, confusion is starting to crop up among Republicans in Congress at a very critical time in the healthcare debate. Capitulation and compromise are now on the table using a bastardized version of a Heritage proposal.

2. 90% of POTUS’ town hall ‘conversation’ made by POTUS.

If you’re wondering how seriously the administration is taking its tame – some might say, ‘gelded’ – town halls, well:

“A look at President Obama’s health care “town hall” Tuesday in Portsmouth, N.H., shows the president out-spoke his audience by a ratio of nearly 9-to-1.”

3. President Obama’s Approval Rating Sinks, 54% of Americans Want No Health Reform this Year

President Obama’s approval ratings have taken a further downward swing, among likely voters, not among “adults” that the national media uses to inflate the polling results in President Obama’s favor.

What is also interesting is that 54% of Americans — among likely voters — believe it would be better if Congress did nothing at all on health reform.

It bears repeating, a majority of Americans want Congress to do nothing on health reform this year.

4. Is Glenn Beck TV’s Obi Wan Kenobi?

“You can’t win, Darth. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.”

— Obi Wan Kenobi

It appears that the left’s urgent boycott of Glenn Beck’s advertisers in an effort to destroy Beck is like Darth Vader strking down Kenobi. It’s making Beck more powerful. He is Kenobi.

According to Media Bistro,

“The Glenn Beck Program”, which airs out of primetime at 5pmET, had its highest rated week ever among Households (1,907,000) and Total Viewers (2,409,000), and second best week in the A25-54 demo (682,000).

Beck was #2 in his time period in both Total Viewers and the demo in all of cable last week, behind NICK, and beating his cable news competition combined in Total Viewers and the demo.

That’s right. Beck was number 2 on all of cable television behind Nickelodeon.

Now, about those sponsors. I probably should not have used the word “sponsors.” They are advertisers. At Fox, they buy ads that are put into rotation during certain segments of the day. SC Johnson Wax, Progressive, GEICO, etc. have demanded they not have their ads run during Beck’s program.

They are cowards.

But the attention is helping Beck.

5. The Prince of Darkness Goes Home: Robert Novak (1931 – 2009)

Robert Novak, one of the best political columnists and reporters to ever write, has been called home to the Lord today.

If you’ve never read his biography, Prince of Darkness, you really should.

Novak was not your typical columnist — he always broke news. That made his writing both unique and in demand. Novak, for many years, put together the Evans-Novak Political Report, which our parent company produced. In it, Novak covered the political scene in relentless fashion.

Bob Novak was also an amazing and pugnacious political commentator, sparring for years on CNN’s Cross Fire.

Bob Novak, a one of a kind reporter, will be missed.
