Jonathan Allen, You Ignorant Slut*

I reserve this title for slightly left tilted journalists whose writings I typically like.

Today it goes to Jonathan Allen for totally parroting DNC talking points. It’s a shame too for someone who has, in a short career, become rather distinguished for his balance.

Granted it’s a bloggish entry, but this really does reveal some bias that you’d expect a reporter at Congressional Quarterly would work diligently to hide.

Allen is knocking the National Republican Congressional Committee for . . . wait for it . . . asking people what they think about healthcare.

House Republicans are asking their supporters for ideas on health care through an online survey — after months of producing nothing in the way of a comprehensive plan for overhauling the health care system.

Are they that hard up for ideas? Aren’t they sent here to study the issues and help make policy based on their expertise?

Instead of the Party of No, they appear to be aiming for the Party of Yes/No/Undecided.

First of all, the Republicans have, in fact, produced plans for health care, see e.g. Ryan-Cantor and the Price plan (by the way Jon, notice how many doctors there are in the Republican conference and yes, they do have a plan). They just haven’t, apparently, offered us a plan that Jonathan Allen thinks is comprehensive enough. They have, if Jon Allen bothered paying attention instead of trying to be cute, lots of ideas.

What they also have is a good contrast to the Democrats, many of whom won’t even have town hall meetings. How so? The GOP is asking people for input on what to do. How dare they ask the public.

Jonathan Allen, even if he wanted to be flippant and show a little bias, could have at least bothered calling the NRCC asking for their take before stepping out of his journalist veneer to play Democrat hack.

*The title is humorous and based on a Saturday Night Live skit. If you aren’t a fan, you won’t get it.
