What’s the point
I have not posted in a long time. The primary reason is the conclusion of my last project GrassleyWatch.com. It was enjoyable and reached a small but dedicated audience in Iowa and DC, but I wondered with every post if anyone cared. I have been encouraged by a few of my former followers and supporters to enter the blogging world again, but I still wonder | Read More »
Grassley’s Vote on the “Rescue Plan”
Senator Grassley (R-IA) has voted in favor of the Senate version of the financial bailout bill. In a statement that the senator released late this evening he explains that he agrees with his constituents that do not like the legislation. He explains that he feels that this is the “best opportunity we have today to avoid a credit crunch that might cripple our economy.” I | Read More »
Senate Republicans try to join bills
Senate Republicans appear to be playing political games with the bailout plan and the tax extenders bill. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Charles Grassley (R-IA) are working to team this legislation for what appears to be two reasons. First, they are attempting to bring an end to the current session as many members would rather dedicate the remainder of the year campaigning than doing their duty. | Read More »
Grassley will likely support bailout, but…
As I have reported previously, it appears that Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA) will support a government “bailout”, but he wants a few things for his support. First, he wants to put a stop to the so called “golden parachutes.” Second, the senator wants a personal apology from Wall Street executives.
Energy Independence Bill or Environmentalists Dream?
Senators Max Baucus (D-MT) and Charles Grassley (R-IA) introduced a new bill to “help reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil.” However, a closer look at the legislation reveals that this bill is a gift to environmentalists. Grassley describes the legislation like this: “The legislation will offer tax credits for wind energy without the cap that the House is trying to impose again this year. It | Read More »
Grassley Investigating Michelle Obama’s Hospital
One of Grassley’s ongoing investigations is related to the tax exempt status of nonprofit hospitals. The latest hospital to come under his scrutiny is none other than the University of Chicago Medical Center that until recently employed Michelle Obama, the wife of the Democratic Nominee for President.
McCain Opposes Grassley on Ag Subsidies and Ethanol
According to a recent AP article, McCain opposes agricultural subsidies. Specifically McCain stated that he does not “support agricultural subsidies no matter where they are.” He further says that the “$300 billion, bloated, pork barrel laden [farm] bill” passed by congress this summer “is something America simply can’t afford.” Grassley Watch could not agree more. Senator Grassley responded to McCain’s coments by sayign that he | Read More »
Breaking News: Republicans oppose ethanol mandate
If you read the 2008 Republican platform you will notice two important things regarding biofuel. First, the plan for energy independence gives ethanol a small role. Second, the platform specifically says “[t]he U.S. government should end mandates for ethanol and let the free market work.”
Edwards Coverage versus Palin Coverage
As I was watching Governor Palin’s family parade onto the stage after her speech at the convention, it came to mind that the coverage of Palin and her daughter seem to be completely different than that of the coverage of Edwards.
A reactionary ethanol plan from Grassley
Grassley has once again expressed his desire to drive an ever increasing percentage of the U.S. corn crop towards ethanol production. He recently reaffirmed his support for the ethanol import tariff in a letter he sent to Susan Schwab, U.S. Trade Representative. Read Grassley’s letter here. This letter was in response to a letter sent to Schwab from Senator Dianne Feinstein inquiring if the ethanol | Read More »
