In an interview, along with Jim Baker at the State Department, on the Charlie Rose program today, both Secretary Clinton and former Secretary Baker were discussing Pakistan and what to do about our policies there. During the discussion, Secretary of State Clinton raised her voice and said that the strongest obligations of a sovereign nation were to 1) "protect the people" and to 2) "secure the border". It begs the question of whether those same priorities apply to the United States. Why is it that we are not to secure our border with Mexico but we expect the Pakistani government to secure their border with Afghanistan? Seems a little one-sided. It makes me wonder if anyone at the White House heard that.
