Senator Jim DeMint is the Right Conservative for President in 2012
As Early back as January 27, 2011, Senator Jim DeMint told CNN’s Peter Hamby “But the ground may be shifting in DeMint-world, and several of his closest advisers and political confidantes are now telling CNN that he is at least open to a presidential bid if a suitably conservative candidate fails to emerge from the early and wide-open GOP field.” http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/01/27/demint-open-to-2012-presidential-bid-advisers-say/
Now Flash Forward to May 19, 2011, First Donald Trump drops out followed closely behind by Mike Huckabee. Two Would-be Top Tier Candidates who have humbly and respectfully dropped out of running for president in 2012 for their own personal reasons. That’s Fine but with Newt Gingrich already playing defense from the media, conservatives and Democrats, the GOP field is looking as “Wide-open” as it gets.
Conservatives are interested in Hermain Cain, Rick Santorum and Tim Pawlenty but Not quite as Excited as they Could be at this Point in 2011.
Three Months has now passed since Senator Jim DeMint let slip his slight interest in running for President in 2012.
The Biggest question on most Conservatives’ collective minds right now is Who will be the Most Conservative Republican to commit to running for President in 2012?
Will it be Mitt Romney? Herman Cain? Rick Santorum? Or Tim Pawlenty?
Those are Fine Candidates Who Would ALL be Much Better in the White House as President than Obama but I’d guess many Conservatives are still wanting a Candidate More Conservative and More Actively Involved with the Grassroots Conservative Tea Party Movement that has Helped the Republicans take over the House in the last Mid-Term Elections.
I Personally Would Love to see Sarah Palin Run, Michele Bachmann or even Allen West.
Allen West has said Publicly that he’d be Vice President IF Asked to serve. Coming from a Marine, that Means alot! It also means that Allen West is happy to be in Congress right now unless someone else taps him to run with them. So Conservatives Who Love and follow Allen West can’t count on Him running for President in 2012.
Then there’s Michele Bachmann. Michele is a Great Conservative Tea Party Patriot Who has been Extremely Active and Very Much a Big Part of the Tea Party Movement. My Main Problem I have with her as a Presidential Candidate would be that she’s a Legislator in Congress. The Problem with that is America has Not Elected a Congressman for President since 1864 when America elected James A. Garfield and even that was only after Garfield completed nine consecutive terms in Congress.
So My Point is that Michele Bachmann has not been around that long and she also would have to overcome being the first woman to be elected President. Those are Tough obstacles to overcome without having More Executive Experience as a Governor of a Largely Populated State would have. Like California, Texas or Alaska.
Speaking of Alaska…Sarah Palin has a Much Bigger Name Recognition in America in General than DeMint which works as Much for her as it does against her. Sarah Palin has been on the frontlines of the Tea Party Movement from the beginning every bit as much as Bachmann or DeMint. The Main Advantage Palin would have over both DeMint and Bachmann is the Executive Experience of Successfully running the State of Alaska and being one of the Most Popular Governors in America before Senator Johm McCain asked her to join Him on His ticket as His Vice President. I Still think that was the Best Decision McCain EVER Made during his entire time during his campaign. I gotta give credit where credit is rightfully due on that move.
As Much as I Love and Support Sarah Palin, she still hasn’t committed to running for President in 2012 yet either.
So on one hand, we have Sarah Palin and the other hand, we have Jim DeMint.
It could be a matter of Who Ultimately Decides to jump in and Run FIRST. Either Candidate would be Well Recieved by Conservative Tea Party Patriots. Most Conservatives Trust that both would Not Run Against each other. That would only split the support and be counter-productive to both of their campaigns.
Since I’ve written previous blog posts expressing support and entthusiam for Sarah Palin, this Blog is going to Focus on Jim DeMint.
Senator Jim DeMint is an Educated Man Who received a bachelor’s degree[when?] from the University of Tennessee and an MBA from Clemson University.
Jim DeMint is also a Business Man Who worked in the field of market research. In 1983, he founded his own research firm, The DeMint Group. Based in Greenville, it had four employees. DeMint ran the company until 1998 when he entered Congress.
Elected as South Carolina’s 55th senator in 2004 after serving six years in the U.S House of Representatives, Jim DeMint has quickly established himself as one of the most effective conservative leaders in Washington. He was recently ranked as the Senate’s most conservative member by National Journal and as the number one senator voting for responsible tax and spending policies by the National Taxpayer Union.
Even as a freshman, Jim has shown that he has no interest in sitting on the sidelines in the Senate. Instead, he has leveraged his expertise in placing products and ideas in a crowded marketplace, gained as the owner of a small market research firm. He has become an effective national voice in Washington’s fight to regain the trust of the American people, most recently on the issues of immigration and wasteful spending.
In late 2006, he was elected by his colleagues as Chairman of the Senate Steering Committee, which is comprised of the majority of Republican senators and works to shape and advance conservative legislation. He also serves on the Commerce, Science, and Transportation; Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs; Foreign Relations and Joint Economic Committees.
DeMint won re-nomination in the Republican Party primary. Democratic Party opponent Alvin Greene won an upset victory over Vic Rawl, who was heavily favored. Due to various electoral discrepancies, Greene received scrutiny from Democratic Party officials, with some calling for Greene to withdraw or be replaced. DeMint consistently led Greene by over 30 points throughout the campaign and won reelection by a landslide.
Prior to the 2010 elections, DeMint founded the Senate Conservatives Fund (SCF), a political action committee that is “dedicated to electing strong conservatives to the United States Senate” and that is associated with the Tea Party movement. As of February 2011, DeMint continued to serve as Chair of SCF, which states that it raised $9.1 million toward the 2010 U.S. Senate elections and which endorsed successful first-time Senate candidates Pat Toomey, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, Ron Johnson, and Marco Rubio.
DeMint plans to retire in 2016 after serving his second term.

Jim DeMint Machine Could Rival NRSC! Posted on March 10, 2011 by angelaktoft From an article in today’s Politico:
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) is already building an aggressive campaign machine for the 2012 Senate elections, promising to push his party further to the right, despite angering many in the GOP establishment with his political activities last year.
DeMint’s Senate Conservatives Fund wants to rake in a staggering $15 million, which is nearly $6 million more than in 2010 when his political action committee raised more money than any other politician’s PAC.
DeMint is now renting a Capitol Hill townhouse for his political operation — just a few blocks from the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the official campaign arm for Senate Republicans. And unlike the NRSC, which plans to stay out of contested primaries, DeMint is prepared to be an active force, jumping into intraparty battles by pushing conservative candidates against moderate Republicans.
The buildup is the latest sign that DeMint has become the pre-eminent conservative political activist in the Senate, and he plans to push candidates whose ideological views align with his and the tea party movement’s — even if it sets up a major clash with the NRSC, which always looks for the most electable prospect. The article continues:
In the first two months of this year, the Senate Conservatives Fund raised an additional $500,000 — far more than it did in a similar period in 2009 — and there are signs that it will only continue to grow. Nearly 90 percent of prospective candidates across the country have sought meetings with DeMint, knowing that his endorsement would play well with conservative activists who are involved in Senate primaries. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0311/50991.html
DeMint Run Could be a 2012 Game-Changer Posted on March 17, 2011 by angelaktoft In an article from yesterday’s Washington Post, Chris Cillizza ponders:
So while we have our preconceptions about who will run, it’s always subject to change. Candidates will rule out a run one month and then open the door the next.
With that in mind, who on the Republican side could really throw a wrench into the calculus of the 2012 presidential election if he (or she) decided to run? Who are we not talking about who could really make an impact?
Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) The second-term GOP senator, in addition to emerging as a kingmaker for tea party candidates in Republican primaries in 2010, has recently shown that he also has significant fundraising prowess. If other tea party candidates don’t run (a distinct possibility) or fizzle early (also a possibility), DeMint could immediately jump in and fill that void. Many Republicans are surprised that DeMint isn’t more actively considering a run, and almost everyone recognizes that he would be a force — especially in his home state of South Carolina. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/post/the-unlikely-game-changers-of-2012/2011/03/16/ABvo78e_blog.html
Viguerie Hopeful DeMint Will Run in 2012 Posted on April 29, 2011 by angelaktoft In an article from yesterday’s ConservativeHQ:
Despite Sen. Jim DeMint’s indications that he won’t run for president, Richard Viguerie, chairman of ConservativeHQ, hopes Sen. DeMint will hear the calls of conservatives, and run for president in 2012.
Viguerie calls Sen. DeMint his “personal favorite” principled, small-government constitutional conservative.
“I think that Sen. DeMint is such a patriot that when he looks at the presidential landscape in the Fall of 2011, he will come to realize that if he doesn’t get into the race, there might not be a candidate that conservatives can almost unanimously rally behind.” http://www.conservativehq.com/article/viguerie-hopeful-demint-will-run-2012
DeMint on the Issues:
On Repealing ObamaCare:
“Republicans are standing with the American people who are demanding we repeal this government takeover of health care,” said Senator DeMint. “Repealing ObamaCare is vital to the future of our nation and the health of our people. ObamaCare will raise health costs, reduce choices, ration care, hike taxes, cut jobs, increase the national debt, and put bureaucrats between patients and their doctors. It’s time to start over and implement commonsense solutions that allow Americans to choose affordable plans across state lines, end frivolous lawsuits that drive up costs, and gives equitable tax treatment to those who don’t get insurance from their employer.” Read More at: http://demint.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?p=PressReleases&ContentRecord_id=fea64424-fa20-47ee-aa45-0acd9763c4b9
On Raising the Debt Limit:
From Sen. DeMint’s Op-Ed in Politico: “Reaching the debt ceiling should be a warning bell to Congress that our debt has reached scorching levels. But all Washington politicians want to do is shut off the alarm instead of put out the fire.
“The alarms are ringing loudly, and with more frequency, in response to new and expanded entitlement programs, bailouts and Big Government takeovers. Congress has voted to raise the debt ceiling every year since 2002 — and twice in 2008 and 2009.
“Raising the debt ceiling yet again without a plan to cut spending would be like putting out a fire with gasoline instead of water. Doing so would allow the government to continue borrowing more to spend more.” Read More at: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0111/48020.html
On National Security:
Due to the volatile nature of the world today, we at Conservatives4DeMint believe it’s imperative that our next President has foreign policy experience. Sen. DeMint serves on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. And as a member of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, DeMint helped write the CECC’s Annual Reports, which monitor China’s rule of law and religious freedom.
Sen. DeMint: ”America’s commitment to the principles of freedom, human dignity and free enterprise are just as strong as when our founding fathers first expressed them. And today, nations that embrace democracy, show respect for human rights, and support private enterprise continue to prosper and peacefully resolve their differences with other countries. As a result, the developed world relies on extensive global trade networks and multilateral agreements as the primary method of diplomacy and national security.
“Despite this success, there remain large parts of the world that continue to suffer from poverty, instability, and a lack of opportunity. These regions can serve as terrorist breeding grounds or they are ruled by tyrants that rely on oppression and extremism to cling to power. In order to protect our freedoms and advance them around the world, America must use every tool at its disposal from our cultural and diplomatic strength to our economic and military power.” Read More at: http://demint.senate.gov/public/index.cfm?p=NationalSecurity
