Erick's question is accurate:
"How many Americans are going to die because of the Obama administration’s incompetent handling of our national security?"
The answer: All of us!
Most historians agree that while JFK responded admirably to the Cuban Missile Crisis, it would have never occurred in the first place had he not projected weakness to the point where the Soviets and Nikita Khrushchev thought that he would back down and do nothing to their placing nuclear warheads in Cuba. What then are we to expect from Putin and the current Russian regime?
The basic question is this: Do you believe that if Russia felt that they could destroy the United States in a surprise nuclear first strike and not suffer a devastating loss, they would do it?
With today's technology, Russian submarines could lie 200 miles off the east and west coast of the U.S. without detection by our defense systems (a few months back a British and French sub brushed each other in the North Sea and didn't realize what happened until they compared notes at NATO). Missile launches from these subs could obliterate the U.S. in 10 - 15 minutes. The President would only have about 5 minutes to make a decision to launch a counter strike. This President seems intent on convincing the Russians that he would not do it.
First, I don't believe this President is capable of making a decision in 5 minutes. Where Bush or Cheney would not hesitate, this President would probably pick up the red phone and ask what was going on.
Second, I don't believe this President believes in M.A.D. (Mutual Assured Destruction). He would probably rationalize that anything he would do to strike back wouldn't change the fact that the U.S. was minutes away from being destroyed. His rationale -- why increase the devastation.
Lastly, he would blame this too on Bush.
To quote a song from the Vietnam era:
5-6-7 open up the pearly gates;
ain't no time to wonder why,
whoopee, we're all going to die.
