Obama’s Failure to Connect
On October 28th President Obama flew to Delaware’s Dover Air Force Base to honor the return of 18 servicemen killed in Afghanistan. Again on November 10th the President flew to Fort Hood, Texas to honor the soldiers and civilians killed in the first terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11. What was missing at both of these events was any emotional connection by the President to the nation’s losses.
Once thought of as cool, calm, and collected, President Obama has revealed himself to be a colder, more calculating individual, and somewhat narcissistic. History has shown these are not traits that endear a President to the public, hence, the failing poll numbers.
A president must be able to shed a few tears once in a while. As president, George Bush was shown on many occasions to have tears in his eyes as he dealt with the tragic events of 9/11 and the acts of heroism and sacrifice in the aftermath. Tears show both humility and humanity—to date, Obama has shown neither.
