Impeachnuts Should Listen to Ordinary Americans

They want domestic drilling, not show trials

I call them the impeachnuts. They’re a small but zealous group of members of the congress who are obsessed with their hatred of President Bush and members of his administration. Displaying the late-stage symptoms of BADS (Bush Administration Derangemnt syndrome), they’ve been grandstanding with the prospects of impeaching the president and vice president. Never mind that the odds of actually convincing the full House to bring such impeachment proceedings are somewhere between nil and none, they press on.

It should come as no suprise to anyone that the impeachment fixation had its genesis on the extreme left end of the political spectrum. Let’s go back to 2006:

A plan is in place to censure and impeach President Bush and Vice President Cheney. Orchestrated and organized by the radical Left and Congressman John Conyers, Jr., this plan is ready to go should the Democratic Party take control of the House of Representatives in November.

The plan is the ultimate manifestation of left-wing hatred for George W. Bush rooted in the contentious election of 2000. Since failing to defeat Bush in 2004, the Left has focused its efforts on destroying his presidency by assembling a list of charges aimed at impeaching him.

-snip-

Boxer and Kerry weren’t the only prominent Democrats discussing the possibility of impeachment during 2005. Such matters were also being discussed by Diane Feinstein, Carl Levin and Ron Wyden, who, along with Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid and left-leaning Republicans Chuck Hagel and Olympia Snowe, called for both Senate Intelligence and Judiciary Committee investigations into the NSA wiretaps.

To some observers, the Democrats’ endless calls for investigations might appear to be simply a dead-end continuation of the 2000 election – heavy on anti-Bush vitriol and posturing, light on concrete action. And such observers might have been right, if not for the fact that a bill, H.R.635, aimed at investigating articles of impeachment, was submitted to Congress on Dec.18, 2005. The submission of that bill by John Conyers Jr. was, first and foremost, a legislative victory for the radical Left and its sugar daddy, Shadow Party leader George Soros, who for all practical purposes guides the anti-U.S., terrorist-sympathizing agendas of the Democratic Party by funding groups that push far-Left candidates and threaten the careers of existing Democratic Party members who do not tow the radical Left line.

Conyers’s H.R. 635 involves creating “a select committee to investigate the Administration’s intent to go to war before congressional authorization, manipulation of pre-war intelligence, encouraging and countenancing torture, retaliating against critics, and to make recommendations regarding grounds for possible impeachment.”

Justifying the submittal of that bill, Conyers said, “There has been massive support for House Resolution 635 from a very vigorous network of grassroots activists and people committed to holding the Bush Administration accountable for its widespread abuses of power.” And he was right, for since the run-up to Operation Iraqi Freedom, radical left-wing groups had been calling for Bush’s impeachment– and organizing petition drives to pressure legislators to that end.

The committed activists Conyers spoke of include:

  • International ANSWER;
  • its founder, former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark (who has advised Conyers on impeachment issues);
  • Center for Constitutional Rights lawyer Barbara Olshansky, who advises Conyers on impeachment related issues and wrote a book on impeaching Bush that has served as a template for H.R.635;
  • the National Lawyers Guild;
  • Veterans for Peace;
  • Workers World Party; and
  • most of the 911 ‘truth’ movement.

But the most committed and influential of those pro-impeachment groups, and the ones that gathered most of the signatures that Conyers uses as his justification for H.R.635, are AfterDowningStreet and ImpeachPAC. Both are directed by a rising star of the radical Left, David Swanson.

David Swanson was failed presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich’s press secretary. He is also one of the principal organizers of the AfterDowningStreet- CensureBush coalition and the director of MeetWithCindy and KatrinaMarch. A Progressive Democrats of America board member, Swanson also directs Democrats.com and has beaten the pro-impeachment drum for the Huffington Post. His ImpeachPAC website is a high-traffic clearinghouse for the impeach-Bush movement. Its stated purpose is “electing a Congress to Impeach Bush and Cheney.”

Two years later, after another failed run for his party’s presidential nomination, Kucinich, the diminutive Representative from Utopia, has taken the impeachment ball and run with it:

Having failed in efforts to impeach Vice President Cheney, Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio) escalated his battle against the administration this week by introducing 35 articles of impeachment against President Bush

-snip-

As they have previously, Democratic leaders staunchly oppose Kucinich’s impeachment effort. They expect to table the resolution by referring it to the Judiciary Committee, where they expect it to die.

House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) suggested yesterday that engaging in a lengthy debate over impeaching Bush in the waning days of his administration is not a productive use of the House’s time.

Hoyer is absolutely correct. Unlike Kucinich and his hard-core leftist posse, the majority of Congresscritters aren’t out for a pound of flesh each from the bodies of the president and vice-president. They have a fresher catch of fish to fry.

With each passing day, Rep. Hoyer and some of the more tuned-in Democrats in the U.S. House are listening to their constituents, and impeachment isn’t what the voters are talking to their elected representatives about. What’s troubling them is how much of their hard-earned cash they are having to leave at the gas pump and the neighborhood grocery. Food prices have been driven up by the rise in fuel prices, as the operators of the 18-wheelers that deliver groceries to the stores are being hit hard every time they fill up their trucks’ big tanks with diesel.

Increasingly, congressional democrats are being made aware that a majority of Americans want to see domestic drilling ramped up in a quick and serious manner. But Kucinich and his ilk in the congress aren’t listening to the average Janes and Joes out there. They only have ears for the usual leftist interests listed above. It’s high time they started representing the American people and not George Soros and his band of Bolsheviks.

Dennis the Menace should also pay some attention to what is happening in Africa:

UNITED NATIONS (CNN) — Sudan has asked for an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers ahead of the expected indictment of the country’s president for genocide and crimes against humanity in Darfur, according to reports.

-snip-

The Darfur conflict began in 2003 when Darfurians rebelled against the central government over its alleged favoritism to Arabs over Africans.

The government in Khartoum fought back allegedly unleashing the janjaweed militia to quell the uprising — a claim the government denies.

The authorities armed and cooperated with Arab militias that went from village to village in Darfur, killing, torturing and raping residents there, according to the United Nations, western governments and human rights organizations. Militias targeted civilian members of the tribes from which the African rebels draw strength.

Human rights groups blame the janjaweed for most atrocities, including the use of rape as a weapon of war.

-snip-

The U.N. estimates that some 300,000 people have died in the conflict and more than 2.5 million have been forced from their homes since 2003.

Now there’s some real crimes against humanity, Mr. Kucinich. President Bush and U.S. troops have never targeted defenseless and innocent civilians. The war being won in Iraq is one that has been waged against terrorists who do target unarmed and innocent civilians, plant hidden explosive devices to kill and main our troops and carry Kalashnikov assault rifles.

Try to learn the difference.

Meanwhile, stop your opposition to domestic drilling and refining or you may just get to see a second American revolution, as ordinary Americans who find it increasingly difficult to afford the fuel to get to work and feed their families lose their last ounce of patience with you and other congressional obstructionists.
