Police were dispatched yesterday to the Henry County Republican Party Headquarters located at 1723 Highway 42 North in McDonough, Georgia when an unhinged liberal entered the business and destroyed a yard sign for Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney with a pair of scissors.
Witnesses say the man initially came in asking about the yard signs as if he wanted one and even made a $20 donation appearing to be a Republican supporter. Things quickly changed after the volunteer worker handed him a Romney yard sign and the man became agitated. He attempted to rip the sign apart with his hands but when he was unable to do so, witnesses say he took a pair of scissors from his back pocket and began cutting and shredding the sign into pieces.
The volunteers I spoke with said he was ranting about how he hated seeing all the Romney yard signs in Lake Haven subdivision where he lives because the Homeowners Association does not allow it. Witnesses also say the man stated “Romney is making me sick!” and “This is just the beginning”. It is unclear if the latter statement was meant to be a threat against the members of the Henry County Republican Party.
The man is described as well-dressed, professional-looking white male; late 40’s or early 50’s; medium build; about 5’10” tall; light brown hair; no facial hair; wearing jeans and a green and tan button up shirt. He was driving a white Ford Ranger with possible Georgia tag 4(2nd digit unknown)4 CX4.
This is the second incident in as many weeks in which police have been called to the Republican Headquarters office. On September 21st, a man in a grey Pontiac G6 parked his vehicle in front of the office and approached a large “Romney for President” sign in the grassy area between the parking lot and the roadway. According to the volunteer who witnessed the incident, he destroyed the Romney sign by swinging at it with a wooden walking stick as if he were swinging a baseball bat. The man is described as white, about 5’8” and 180 pounds with bushy red hair and a red beard.
Second Vice Chairman Vicki Temple who oversees volunteer activities stated today “Volunteer security is of utmost importance and the Henry County Republican Party will be taking all available steps to ensure their safety.” Henry County Police have verified that the location has been placed on the list to receive additional patrolling and Henry County Sheriff Keith McBrayer has also been notified.
Anyone with information on these two incidents is asked to contact the Henry County Police Department at (770) 288-8200.
