As this site continues to grow, I am developing and learning more about the importance of reaching out to the youth in America and talking about the values of the right.
There is a valuable lesson that we, as people who support the American constitution, values, individual rights, and privileges, need to learn and enact very quickly in effort to see America continue to grow and blossom into the nation that we foresee.
The youth in America have become disenfranchised by the American political system. Before the 2008 election, when it began to look like Barack Obama was going to win the general election, I began saying to my friends in college who were advocates on his behalf that “I hope he does everything that he is telling you that he is, because if not, there are going to be a lot of people disappointed who won’t want anything to do with it anymore.”
Gallup just reported that the number of young people who are politically motivated to vote in November has dropped since 2008. These are the same young people who are listening to the media and then going back to their classrooms to sit through an indoctrination. When these people get older, how do you think that they will vote? To advocate a continuation of the America system or to support a “fundamental change in America?”
What is somewhat odd is that, with the exception of Guantanamo Bay, the Patriot Act, and a short list of some other things, if you read his book, really listened to what he said, or just generally listened to what he said, President Barack Obama has done a lot of the things that he promised to do. He began a fundamental change in the America and potentially will finish the job if he wins in November.
Additionally, now that they have been paying attention for a couple of years, youths have seen the growing influence of money on the campaigns and, having been told the anti-capitalist perspective, are growing towards a perspective that will continue to run down an Occupy Wall Street perspective against the necessity of a capitalist system as well as against the corporations who have impacts in elections.
Essentially, the youth will see the amount of money that the republican candidate Mitt Romney is receiving from donors, whether that is corporations or rich casino owners, as buying an election, without considering the amount of money that Obama received from his own pet projects, which he in turn repaid using tax payer dollars.
Youth and the Future
Youth and politics are a great opportunity for America and one that we have to embrace in order to protect our future. Across the board, the generations that have come before us, and I say “us” loosely as I grow closer to 30 than to 20, are very much appreciated as valuable resources and for taking up the fight for the future of the country; our future.
However, it is important to consider the value in raising young people up to a status of credibility. Empower the youth and encourage them to learn more about the American way, otherwise, when this generation is in power, there is a very strong chance that we will see a TRUE fundamental change in America.
Youth and Politics and You?
One simple thing that the politically engaged can do to help this country and effort is to listen when a young person reaches out to you to become engaged. Find a task for them where they can help you perform your efforts better and more efficient.
We will discuss what you can do to help the youth and politics in future pieces.
