DNC’s interfaith gathering tonight

doomed for failure

“How do you kick off a week-long celebration to showcase our Party’s nominee, our strength, our diversity and our shared values? Watch this video as DNCC CEO Rev. Leah Daughtry talks about the first ever Convention interfaith gathering — the first official event of the 2008 Democratic National Convention.”

Can you say blatant attempt to attract evangelicals? No doubt the dems will walk away feeling all warm and tingly inside but they’ll still not get what they need – votes of the evangelicals.

Fox’s Lauren Green did a thorough column on this event and my favorite paragraph is this one.

“Now all of this is very Kum Ba Yah, but according to pundits and pollsters, the Democrats’ increased faith effort has not helped Sen. Obama cut into the evangelical vote. In fact, according to a new survey by the Pew Forum, Obama’s appeal to evangelicals is about the same as fellow Democrat John Kerry’s was four years ago – around 25 percent. Talk about a tepid response to a hot pursuit!”

So why is it that dems aren’t getting any traction? Because they fail to recognize that there are several issues they support which aren’t just lines in the sand; they’re concrete barricades.

Abortion: Obama’s website put this issue under women’s issues and the right to choose, as if they’re deciding what outfit, shoes or purse to wear.

Marriage: Obama support getting rid of the Defense of Marriage Act. Every evangelical I know views their marriage as a union of three – me, her and Him.

Christianity: From Obama’s own website, “Senator Obama also laid down principles for how to discuss faith in a pluralistic society, including the need for religious people to translate their concerns into universal, rather than religion-specific, values during public debate.” Evangelicals have a big old book replete with stories about bad things that happen when you water down God’s word and place other gods at His level.

The Evangelical Operator’s Manual (aka The Holy Bible) doesn’t allow, encourage or otherwise enable dilution of the Living Word.
