Why are American conservatives in love with Putin?
Ed Kozak begins his piece lauding Putin like this.
“Oh, Mother Russia. She’s been in the news a lot lately, and most of the coverage has been rather negative, to put it mildly. Even Obama has taken to chastising Russia on late night television. Much of this criticism is largely without merit. I’d lay out the reasons why, but Pat Buchanan has already done so brilliantly in an article over at Human Events. Buchanan also suggests that Russia, Putin included, is embracing a return to conservatism. It certainly appears he is right.”
He is not the only one
Bryan Fischer, a Christian radio host and self-proclaimed “Homosexuality expert,” has lavished praise on Putin’s Russia’s treatment of gays on Russian Radio:
““Homosexual behavior is just as risky as drug abuse,” Fischer said, he continued. “I think the Russian government is right to be concerned with propaganda on teenagers who are at the age of struggling through sexual identity issue and we should help to channel these urges in productive behavior. Heterosexuality is God’s design. Policies that encourage young people to think this are good ideas.”
Have the right gotten so frustrated at lack of action against Obama that they have found a hero in ex-KGB head Putin? Has Putin’s Russia suddenly become this last bastion of Christian values in the eyes of some on the conservative right?
Or is this just madness caused by the summer heat. It is a curious thing for sure. How long ago the Cold War seems now.
