Newt “selling” Contract with America for campaign cash
I received a robo-email from Newt.org offering a copy of the New Contract with America for $19.95. The text appears just like the script of an old “RONCO” style TV infomercial. Notice the repetition. I can easily hear the emphasis he places on “you will have the chance to be the first”, and there is even a contest. Sorry, I didn’t see any “bonus” packages offered though! Below is part of the text from the e-mail:
[You have a chance to be the first person to see a copy of this new, 21st Century Contract with America.
Between now and September 27th, if you donate $19.94 or more at Newt.org, you will be entered into a contest to get a first glimpse at the new 21st Century Contract with America before we officially unveil it in Iowa. The winner will also receive an autographed copy of the original Contract with America and a call from me.
Our presidential campaign today reminds me of our congressional campaign in 1994, when we set out to regain control of the House of Representatives for the first time in 40 years. All the pundits said it was impossible. But we proved them wrong.
Let's do it again, this time with the presidency. Donate $19.94 at Newt.org between now and September 27th and you will have a chance to be the first to see the new, 21st Century Contract with America.]
I thought it was a little CHEESY. Newt must be hurtin for campaign funds. I always liked Newt Gingrich. He is smart. He can out-debate anyone and the perfect words roll off his tongue without hesitation when he answers the questions. But he is not conservative enough for me. And I used to think he was a champion of conservatism. I can’t tell if his meandering toward the middle is only a tactic to gain moderates and independents or if he really has become a moderate. I wont take any chances. I would rather hear the plain truth so I know exactly what I am getting.
