There are a few things that are so unbelievably distasteful that they make my skin crawl.
For example, the building next door to my office is a pet crematory. Before it was that, I was considering opening a cafe there. It doesn’t matter at this point if the building was razed to the ground and the dirt burned in an inferno; nobody will eat in a place where fluffy and fido met their final flame-broil.
That was a funny (although real) example. This is dead serious.
In Buffalo, New York, the “first-ever Birthing Center/Abortion Clinic” has opened. My eyelids are fluttering and my skin is crawling just writing this.
Who in their right mind would want to give birth, bring a living baby into the world, in a place where babies are routinely killed? What kind of deadened conscience so deeply smothered in the crazy quilt of “explicit feminism” would call such a place “a major step in the right direction”?
Apparently Slate Magazine’s Amanda Marcotte.
Marcotte describes this place as going “beyond the call of duty in making sure their patients are emotionally, as well as physically, cared for.” How emotionally enlightening is it to hear newborn babies crying when you have just had yours dismembered? How compassionate is it to give birth when the staff, after delivering your baby, is headed to the “abortion wing” for their next “procedure”?
I can’t even conceive of a worse idea (pun intended).
I am literally speechless at how bad this idea is, how utterly bankrupt of anything decent or good it is.
A one stop shop for murder and the beauty of new life?
The image that comes to mind is, unfortunately, an inscription that is undeservedly used most of the time, but this time it’s deserved. “Arbeit mach frei”; work makes you free. You know where this inscription comes from, and if you don’t, Google it.
To make the comparison all the more stark, let’s look at a place that has my total support and my prayers.
If you are a pregnant woman in Macon or Warner Robins, Georgia, you can come to Caring Solutions Pregnancy Center where the message is “You are not alone. You are not a number. You are special.” This is a place that I can say is truly “huge”, respects women, and their choices, and provides emotional, physical, and spiritual support for women who experience unintended pregnancy.
Not convinced? Compare the two organizations services offered.
Buffalo Women’s Services offers two categories of services, but look at the page under “abortion”. On that page, they mention counseling, with “post-abortion counseling” added as almost an addendum “oh by the way.” Look to the right and see the real motivation: the fee schedule. For just $1700 they’ll kill your 22-week old baby.
At 11 inches and almost 1 pound (about the size of a spaghetti squash), your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment.
If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily. [from BabyCenter.com]
Caring Solutions offers pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, parenting education, baby showers and prayer, and after abortion care and support. What’s missing from that page is the fee schedule. Because there’s no fee. All of that is offered free of charge.
No babies are killed at Caring Solutions. No babies are delivered there either, but women are given support, personal care, and actual parenting support.
I think the concept of “care” is not included in the $1700 fee at Buffalo Women’s Services. Their “service” is based on what you pay, and they care to the degree that your insurance or your personal check is good. I also noticed on their “OB/GYN” service page how Dr. Morrison specializes in “Gyn care for Straight, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered”. I haven’t heard of an OB/GYN who refuses to treat a pregnant woman based on her sexual preference. I Googled for it and only found instances of doctors who refused to artificially inseminate lesbians. There were exactly zero results for women who were already pregnant and refused care.
So much for the boogeyman of doctors just refusing to treat pregnant lesbians. Exactly how a transgender person becomes pregnant (I am talking about people who undergo “sex-reassignment” surgery), I have no clue. I don’t think we can implant a working uterus into someone who wasn’t born with one. I don’t think we even could with any medical technology short of a cranium transplant.
Most of all, at Caring Solutions, women are given hope. Many of the women entering the facilities are hopeless when they get there. They see no options. They are emotionally conflicted. Many are feeling pressured to abort their baby. There is no judgement at Caring Solutions. Women who decide to terminate their pregnancy are given the same care, love, and support as those who decide to keep their baby, or those who offer theirs up for adoption. It’s about showing love to women, giving them hope, and giving them real options when they just need someone to understand.
I only can stomach reading about places like Buffalo Women’s Services because I know that places like Caring Solutions Pregnancy Centers exist.
I pray that this “huge” concept of one-stop shop kill your baby or deliver it fails. I pray that this evil come to a complete and permanent end.
Can you help me?
Oppose this evil concept by supporting the authentic thing.
Every dollar you give will go towards caring for women, not to line some abortion doctor’s pockets.
Please, do it now, lives are at stake. Maybe someone in Buffalo is reading this. All the protests in the world and all the hot air in the world and all the blog posts in the world don’t make as much difference as your dollars given to help women.
I pray for the day that such places that exploit women in the name of “choice” will close up for good, instead of expanding into delivering babies whose birth certificates indicate they were born at an abortion clinic.
Then maybe my skin will stop crawling.
