NBC News has been having a lot of conversations with the Taliban lately. A quote from a Taliban commander.
"We thought we may not see them again as once you land in the hands of Americans, it's difficult to come out alive,” Noori’s relative said. “But it was a miracle that Allah Almighty gave us Bergdahl and we got back our heroes.”
They are also reporting that the government of Qatar is not restricting the movements of the Taliban Five. The "deal" we have is supposed to keep those men from traveling, but I suspect it won't be hard for them to slip out at some point to Afghanistan. They are certainly expected there soon.
"After arriving in Qatar, Noorullah Noori kept insisting he would go to Afghanistan and fight American forces there,” a Taliban commander told NBC News via telephone from Afghanistan.
In the USA, Bergdahl gets a deserter's welcome (and should), and the Taliban Five are given a heroes' welcome.
If we were fighting WWII all over again, I wonder if NBC would be reporting from Normandy, quoting Rommel. The world is certainly upside down, SMH.
