Darkness and light
Mr. Obama, we must destroy ISIL now
Try as I might, I can’t look at yellow and see purple. Light and darkness can’t both occupy the same space at the same time, and President Obama’s pre-golf remarks about ISIL can’t occupy the truth in the world in which we live.
Before the most brutal act ever videoed and placed on Youtube, James Foley’s killer said this:
You’re no longer fighting an insurgency, we are an Islamic army, and a state that has been accepted by large number of Muslims world wide, so effectively, any aggression towards the Islamic State, is aggression towards Muslims from all walks of life who has accepted the Islamic caliphate as their leadership, so any attempt by you Obama to deny the Muslims their rights of living in safety under the Islamic caliphate will result in the bloodshed of your people.
He mentioned the word “Muslim” three times, and referred to IS as an “Islamic army”. These words have been backed up by IS’s campaign of terror, conquest and power consolidation in Syria and Iraq. Obama countered this with his remarks.
They declared their ambition to commit genocide against an ancient people. So ISIL speaks for no religion. Their victims are overwhelmingly Muslim, and no faith teaches people to massacre innocents. No just god would stand for what they did yesterday and what they do every single day. ISIL has no ideology of any value to human beings. Their ideology is bankrupt. They may claim out of expediency that they are at war with the United States or the West, but the fact is they terrorize their neighbors and offer them nothing but an endless slavery to their empty vision and the collapse of any definition of civilized behavior.
People like this ultimately fail.
Mr. Obama, can we be perfectly clear here: ISIL speaks for Islam. Even if only 20% of Muslims worldwide agree with ISIL’s bankrupt ideology, that’s 340 million people—the population of the United States. Saying that ISIL speaks for no religion is simply hollow rhetoric. Worse, it’s a catastrophically benighted view of the situation, one that can only lead to more bloodshed and misery.
There is no lens or color gel through which any intelligent, discerning person can look and see the Islamic State as anything but what it is, an extreme, brutal group which bases its worldview, philosophy, and law upon principles extracted directly from the Islamic texts, the Quran and the Sura. Whether you agree with their interpretation of these texts is irrelevant. Whether 98% of Muslims agree with it is irrelevant. ISIL is Islamic and speaks for Islam, whose texts teach that there are no innocents, that all infidels are subject to death. Muslims argue over the definition of “infidel”, but all would agree with their fate.
The monstrous figure speaking on Foley’s murder video is telling the truth from his perspective. He is not making threats, he is making a statement, then carrying it out. These people are dead serious, and their neighbors: Jordan, Iran, Israel, Lebanon, are all taking them very seriously.
On the other hand, President Obama is not being truthful. Either he is purposely coloring his speech to avoid the truth, or he is hopelessly feckless. Apparently U.S. Special Forces attempted to rescue Foley a few weeks ago and failed—it’s possible that someone in Obama’s orbit realized the danger and knew Foley’s days were numbered.
There is only one way that ISIL will be stopped. We, the United States, must take the lead in eliminating it. Countries with large Muslim populations, which now include England and France, and many of the western European NATO members, can’t do it. If you think Ferguson is a horror, imagine the riots that would result in England and France if they were to attack the Islamic State, who purports to speak for Muslims worldwide. I don’t see Muslims rising up around the world to protest ISIL’s actions. There are no marches, large rallies, or sign-holding on street corners like I see supporting Hamas, another evil organization.
Mr. President, for once, for the sake of your “legacy”, belly up to the bar and defend humanity, liberty, and the country to which you swore an oath. Do more than say “people like this ultimately fail.” Instead, say “we, the United States, will cause these people to fail, because we are coming for you. We will not be forced to share our world with you, who seek to kill us. You will be stopped because we will stop you.” This is no time for half-measures and talk of how “appalled” we are.
If we do not act, this will not be the last public beheading video we’ll see. This will only be the beginning of sorrows and death. Mr. President, we must kill ISIL now before they spread. The darkness cannot occupy the same space as the light, and either we are the light, or we will be overcome by the darkness. Let’s be the light.
