Let me begin by admitting I met with President Obama during his first campaign for the White House. I publicly endorsed him for President, I donated money to his campaign, I worked on his campaign for months and I served on his Small Business Advisory Council. Like millions of other Americans I feel like I was lied to and betrayed.
Now, strictly based on the facts, he may be the most anti-small business President in history.
For several years now I have said people need to quit listening to what Obama says and start to look at what he is actually doing.
In February of 2008, he released a glowing statement about the importance of small businesses that ended with the statement, “It is time to end the diversion of federal small business contracts to corporate giants.” The number of Fortune 500 firms receiving federal small business contracts has skyrocketed since Obama took office. Last year 175 Fortune 500 firms received billions of dollars in federal small business contracts. In 2012 a record 235 Fortune 500 firms received federal small business contracts.
In 2009 the Government Accountability Office (GAO) investigated the Small Business Administration and released report 10-108 that stated,
“By failing to hold firms accountable, SBA and contracting agencies have sent a message to the contracting community that there is no punishment or consequences for committing fraud.”
Does that sound to you like the GAO is accusing the Obama Administration of encouraging firms to commit felony federal contracting fraud? That is exactly what it sounds like to me.
Now lets take a look at the SBA budget. In the last 24 months Obama has slashed the SBA budget by more than 25%. No other agency in the federal government has seen their budget cut by such an astronomical percentage. I don’t think any federal agency in recent history has ever had their budget gutted by such a huge percentage.
Look at it this way, the annual operating budget for the SBA was higher 30 years ago when Ronald Reagan was President than it is today. You cannot name one agency in government other than the SBA whose budget was higher 30 years ago than it was today?
So based on US Census Bureau data we know small businesses are responsible for over 90% of the net new jobs. There are over 28 million small businesses in America and they are responsible for over 50% of the private sector work force and over 50% of the Gross Domestic Product. The Small Business Act that requires that 23% of all federal contracts be awarded to small businesses is the single largest federal program in history to stimulate the middle class economy and create jobs.
The SBA is the one and only agency in our government to help the 28 million small business where most Americans work.
A series of federal investigations and investigative reports in the media have proven Obama has knowingly and intentionally cheated American small businesses out of hundreds of billions of dollars in federal small business contracts. After his attempts to permanently close the SBA by combining it with the Department of Commerce failed, now he is trying an unprecedented move to starve the SBA to death my gutting their budget and staff.
If President Obama had even the slightest concern for the middle class, the economy and job creation he would be doubling the SBA budget not gutting it.
So like I always say, when you quit listening to Obama and look at what he is actually doing, he is anti-small business and anti-middle class.
P.S. If you want to see something amazing call SBA spokesman Terry Sutherland and ask him why the Obama Administration cut the SBA budget by a larger percentage than any other agency and why they diverted small business contracts to 175 Fortune 500 firms last year. Here is his number (202) 208-6919 and email [email protected] . Be sure and tell him Lloyd says Hi.
