For the first time ever, President-elect Obama has received negative reviews and it is pretty safe to assume this is one major muslim capital crossed off the list for Obama's planned speech. Iranian protesters showed their outrage at Israel and the U.S. and burnt large posters of Obama in Tehran yesterday. It is a national past time in most muslim countries to burn pictures or effigies of U.S. Presidents. The dozens of protesters welcomed him into that elite status just a week before he is officially inaugurated President of the United States.
The chants and festivities included:
"Where are the freedom seekers?" read one poster held up by a demonstrator at Tuesday's protest. It had the word "Gaza" emblazoned on it and an image of a weeping Palestinian.
The demonstrators, waving Palestinian flags, some chanting "Death to Obama," had gathered outside the Swiss embassy which handles U.S. interests because Tehran and Washington have not had diplomatic ties for nearly three decades.
I wonder if shoe throwing and threats to the President of the United States will all the sudden become taboo to certain citizens of America? Also, does this delay the new era in human history that Obama was to usher in?
Pardon the punditry, but I for one find this insulting, threatening and the further promotion of a hateful ideology that is Islam.
