All law is morality. The basis of a moral claim is what gives the law its justification. We outlaw murder because we see it as a moral wrong to unjustly take the life of another. We outlaw stealing because we believe property owners have rights. We force people to buy car insurance because if they injure another, we demand they have a way to make the injured whole. However, the Democratic Party is now engaged in the moral justification for the confiscation of wealth and power from American citizens. The justification they are using is some have more than others. This is on shaky philosophical grounds. Unlike security for a person's body or property, this moral imperative is to punish success. The Party of Jefferson, Jackson, and Kennedy is rapidly becoming the Party of Class Envy.
President Obama, the head of the Party, started this philosophical imperative. He gave impetus to the progressive/socialist faction in the party to demand more from the productive sector in order to pay off the government sector. Obama said this when he addressed the joint session of Congress on September 8, 2011 via Politico. "No single individual built America on their own. We built it together. We have been, and always will be, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all; a nation with responsibilities to ourselves and with responsibilities to one another." Therefore, Obama is suggesting, the individual will have to succomb to the 'whole.' The 'whole' meaning progressive social experiments. He was building the philosophical case for taking more from some to give to others. His redistributionist ideals are firmly based on a worldview that there are two Americas, the robbers and the victims. His ideas are based entirely on one of the seven deadly sins, envy.
And his message has found fertile ground, and that is frightening.
Via today's Drudge Report, October 2, 2011, 'Roseanne Barr: Behead bankers, rich who won't give up wealth.' If only "Roseanne's Nuts" were alone! She is merely following the logical extension of the rabid covetous nature of this line of thinking. Forbes estimates Barr's net worth at around $80 million, so she conveniently puts a cap on what people are ALLOWED to have at $100 million. Everyone above her net worth is therefore a pig, while she a noble peasant.
Warren Buffett is no better. Buffett, with a net worth estimated at $39 billion recently called for higher tax rates on the very rich. However, when confronted with the so-called Buffett rule, the Oracle of Omaha balked. Why? Because the rule suddenly became quite personal and the idea of taking his wealth without having his nice, tidy tax breaks and loopholes seemed a bit draconian. All to further the fleecing of America through jealousy, just don't include him.
This orgy of class envy has infected every corner of the Democratic Party ideology. Peter Orszag, the former OMB director for Obama, wrote a dangerously totalitarian piece in The New Republic which called for de-democratizing the United States. In this piece, he argues for a system of automatic tax increases, bailouts, incentives, spending programs, and rulemaking by a bureaucracy independent of the political process. He believes institutionalizing the failed Obama stimulus program into a permanent governing body beyond the reach of the people would insure economic prosperity. Orszag argued to save democracy, it would be necessary to bypass it.
This is the voice of reason in the Democratic Party?
Unwashed radicals, who don't even know what they are protesting, have 'occupied' Wall Street and are organizing with union thugs throughout the nation. They are openly calling for taking your money and giving it to 'the people' which is presumably them. They aren't clamoring for jobs or help or 'fairness.' They are simply envious of those who have something. They have nothing, done nothing, aren't prepared to do anything, but they deserve a slice of pie regardless. The OccupyWallStreet crowd are simply anarchists who want to smash the rights of the productive class to get what they have. It mirrors the riots in the UK earlier this year and the continued protests throughout the southern tier of the EU. Portugese and Greek 'workers' are demanding no cuts to their programs and the pillaging of private citizens' assets.
And it gets worse.
The North Carolina Governor, Beverly Perdue, decided to ask a Rotary Club to help her with a cockamamie plan to suspend the electoral process. "You have to have more ability from Congress, I think, to work together and to get over the partisan bickering and focus on fixing things. I think we ought to suspend, perhaps, elections for Congress for two years and just tell them we won't hold it against them, whatever decisions they make, to just let them help this country recover. I really hope that someone can agree with me on that." from the News and Observer, September 27, 2011. Of course, the Democratic Party run press tried to assauge us with the dumb claim it was a joke. The audio revealed it as something quite different, a serious proposal.
Perdue's entire line of thinking is framed by government taking from some and giving to others as a kind of economic arrangement that would 'fix' the economy. It's just coveting what the productive class has by the government class. Since the government class is feeling a bit light in the pocketbook, they see their neighbors' savings and investments as the pot of neverending gold that will only annoy the leprechaun.
This entire class envy mentality has become the governing strategy for the entire Democratic Party edifice. Their entire moral compass is pointed toward coveting thy neighbors' goods. If the neighbors say no, the Party throws a collectivist hissy fit. They march on Bank of America. They block traffic. They demand concentration camps for bankers.
All because they are just a group of people filled with jealousy over what the Joneses have. What a sad, and rapidly out-of-control moral philosophy.
