Is Booing Worse than Spitting?
On President Fast-and-Furious’ campaign/passthisbill/blameRepublicans tour, he repeatedly accused the GOP presidential candidates of homophobia. Yet, when his own band of misfits, the OccupyThis-and-That crowd, spits on a member of the Coast Guard he is silent. What kind of message is that sending to his paid Jacobins on the left? Does Obama think a boo is worse than spitting on an actual person? This is where it starts getting ugly.
It all started with a blatantly partisan question by an out gay soldier serving in the army in Iraq. Fox News and Google sponsored a debate in Orlando Florida on September 21, 2011. This soldier asked, via video, what the Republican candidates would do about the recent ousting of the fabled, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy in regards to gays in the military. Here’s how The Hill, ‘Gay soldier booed at presidential debate: candidates stay mum,’ by Cameron Joseph, Sept. 22, 2011 characterized the scene:
“Some members of the GOP debate audience booed a gay soldier who asked via video whether the Republican candidates would reinstitute the recently repealed “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy of banning openly gay soldiers.” President SunPower took this quote and ran with it condemning the entire Republican field for not standing up for the service member. He argued:
“We don’t believe in the kind of smallness that says it’s okay for a stage full of political leaders — one of whom could end up being the president of the United States — being silent when an American soldier is booed.” USA Today, ‘Obama bashes GOP booing of gay soldier,’ David Jackson, Oct. 2. 2011. It would appear Obama is on the right side of this moral struggle. If people are booing a soldier merely because he’s gay, that would have a chilling effect on the social position of gay people in this society, not just soldiers.
However, that isn’t what happened. After watching the tape, it was clear of the 5,500 people present, only a couple of people, five at most did the booing. Furthermore, they didn’t boo the soldier, they booed the question. When listening to the tape, as Glenn Beck and company did with a close analysis, it was very clear the soldier stated he was gay, presented his situation, and then asked about their approach to DADT. It was only then the voices in the crowd booed. In fact, The Hill article also makes that distinction.
“After Stephen Hill, who is serving in the Army in Iraq, asked his question, a handful of members of the audience booed loudly. None of the Republican candidates responded to the audience’s reaction.” Even The Hill writer knew the booing was a small number in the large crowd and was in response to the question, not the questioner. But Obama, determined to smear his opponents with as broad a brush as possible, said this, “You want to be commander in chief? You can start by standing up for the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States, even when it’s not politically convenient.” That is good advice for a leader. But is President Solyndra more politically motivated in his actions than he admits?
Karl Rove lines up the Obama administration/Democratic Party’s stance in regards to the OccupyThis-and-That protests across the nation. From the Wall Street Journal, Oct. 13, 2011, ‘Democrats woo the Occupy Wall Street protestors but could it backfire?’
“At his recent news conference, President Obama praised Occupy Wall Street, saying, ‘It expresses the frustrations that the American people feel.’ Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised the protesters, saying, ‘God bless them for their spontaneity.’ Vice President Joe Biden claimed the protesters had ‘a lot in common with the Tea Party.’ And the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is circulating a petition seeking 100,000 signers to declare, ‘I stand with the Occupy Wall Street protests.”
It appears the entire party apparatus is simpatico with the Occupier’s ideals and even methods, since Bite-Me likened them to the Tea Party and the DCCC is standing with them. But, the actions of the OccupyThis-and-That are not quite like the fastidious Tea Party, God Bless Them. From MyFox Boston, Oct. 14, 2011, ‘Occupy Boston protestors spit on Coast Guard,’ they report:
“The Coast Guard in Boston confirmed that a woman in uniform was harassed and spat upon near Occupy Boston protesters.
The woman was walking to the train and said protesters spit on her twice, called her foul names and even threw a water bottle at her.
Now, the Coast Guard is warning all staff working on Atlantic Avenue to avoid those protesters while in uniform.”
Well, now this is quite the pickle. While a couple of people at the GOP debate had booed a question, this crowd verbally and physically assaulted a member of the Armed Services in the flesh. Not only did they assault her, but they spit on her. That is one of the most atrocious insults we have in this culture. Deliberately spitting upon another is a sign of hostile disrespect. So, what is President GE’s response to this? Certainly, a responsible Commander-in-chief would, “start by standing up for the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States, even when it’s not politically convenient.” In his own words, the wrath of the United States president should rain down on the Occupy Boston protestors. He condemned the entire GOP field for not responding quickly enough to booing a question by a gay soldier, isn’t he just as guilty of the same offense?
In fact, isn’t the offense made to the woman in the Coast Guard that much worse? I would think the gay soldier asking a question by video may have been offended or hurt by the booing, but what of the assault upon the person in the armed services? She was attacked in person and spat upon. The Coast Guard is so concerned about this incident they warned active duty members to avoid the Occupy-This-and-That-ers while in uniform. So, we now have active duty service members forced into the military closet while serving their country.
Meanwhile, the gay soldier can serve openly and the Obama administration will viciously attack any dissent against his ideas. But, if you are in the Coast Guard and near any of the precious Democratic Party Jacobins, beware for your bodily safety. And the Obama administration blithely accepts this as simply the cost of doing business. Nothing to see here. Just move right along.
